Rough driveway needs to be smoothed

I use my Boxblade and Rear blade to smooth out our driveway. The boxblade digs it up and loosens the gravel and the rear blade levels and grades the gravel to a perfect finish. To get it perfect with your boxblade, extend your top link out a bit and it will drag the boxblade where it only grades with the rear blade. I use that on my trails in the woods and leveling out large areas. I like to mess with the toplink a bit.

Given what everyone has said, I guess I will have my wife use the box blade. She enjoys grading work and I hate it.

I have a 6' box blade, yes it has a hydraulic top link, but, the best way to smooth and relevel a gravel road or driveway is with guage wheels on a large landscape rake having lots of weight on it. The guage wheels need to be mounted behind the tines so that they establish a level road plane based on the smoothed roadway, not the tractor's hitch height. The top link needs to be disconnected or use a chain on it. Otherwise, you wind up with a roller coaster track.

Yes you can angle (slighly) a box blade. An 8' York rake running at 30 - 45 degrees angled to comb the edge material in, followed by the rake set to 0 degrees to flat top the road lane produces the best looking, smoothest and cleanest driveway. BTW: crushed asphalt makes the best gravel material. Packs better and no dust.
