Rough Field. Need Help!

"I figure I am going to mow it again and then disc it. I am going to take the advise and let it set for a time and then disc again before planting seed most probably in the spring. Also plan on testing the soil.

I like the idea of pulling old tires to help level and burning is a great idea except my wife is afraid I will burn the county down. One good way to get rid of the weeds and their seeds..."

Burning is a supreme idea supposing the risk to property and neighbors is minimal.

But, once burned, you will need to disc to level the area out better.....tires won't come close to cutting it. Maybe tires behind the disk to help bust clods and drag the furrows, but, that's about all.

After burning and discing seriously, seriously look at chemical means to control the growth problem. Kill the weeds, pesky shrub/tree growth, and all while preserving grass necessary to secure the ground.

Do the above and you will have a nice pasture in a couple of years time that will be easier to maintain and more beneficial to wildlife.

I'm glad I found this thread because I have the same situation. I was planning to do the mowing, disking and dragging. I also got some information from the state dept. of natural resources about establishing a native prairie. They said one thing you can do is keep mowing the unwanted stuff before the seed pods mature so that it doesn't reseed itself.
