Any thoughts on this one?

I have a TC29D with 33 hours on it. I use it primarily for mowing 4 acres with a 72" MMM. I first noticed the problem at 25 hours one time, and then again at 33 hours last night.

After mowing for an hour or so at full throttle then I idle down. (Once to shift into a higher gear range and then once to attach the FEL.)

After increasing the throttle the tractor runs real rough. Increasing to full throttle the RPMs increase to almost 3000 and then vary up and down between 1800 and 3000. The whole time this is happening the tractor is shaking from rough running and bluish smoke (diesel exhaust I assume) is pouring out the exhaust.

It just seems like the engine is loaded up or something. The only thing I can do is shut it down, wait about 10 minutes, then fire it back up. Runs fine then.

Needless to say I am starting to wonder about this tractor. I have been plagued with a hydro problem from the start. The pedal sticks in forward and reverse after the tractor warms up. The dealer "adjusted" the linkage for the pedal to no help. Now the thing creeps into a slow reverse from neutral plus the pedal sticks and does not return to neutral without a lot of user intervention. NH now says to replace the whole linkage and see. The hydro problem is really a hazard as one loses control to some degree of movement.

Is this kind of stuff expected? I have only had this tractor for about 2 months. The dealer has been great about the hydro pedal other than it is not fixed and now the reverse creep is happening.

Advice on the rough running and hydro pedal appreciated. Also any reassuring words that I did not make the worst $19,000 investment of my life.

RuT,

I wouldn't say it was the worse investment at all. While it is sad to hear the problems you are having with a new machine, you do have a warranty and a dealer to help. I would follow what NH says and let them repair the Hydro, and trouble shoot the engine load issue.

At least you won't be out your new machine in the winter when it could be a real issue.

You're just going to have to stay after your dealer and get the hydro and rough running problems fixed. I've had a few problems also, nothing major, and the dealer has fixed them all. I have over 200 hours on mine now and am very happy with it.

Just got the tractor back last week from the dealer. The hydro problem was corrected with a new part.

The rough running was corrected by some combination of a new fuel filter and thermostat. (Not sure which, but the problem has occured since new so I thought it odd the fuel filter was at fault.)

To all those discouraged by the little problems...keep pushing the dealer to get them fixed under warranty. Hopefully you have a good dealer and don't have to push too hard. (I didn't...just had to call and setup the appointment.)
