Rough start in cold weather on Bransons

I cleaned the bus bar with no luck, I measured the plugs and got the following:
1.) 1 ohm
2.) 47 ohms
3.) 87K ohms

So I figureI have two bad glow plugs, and I have a full 12.5VDC while the relay is on. Anybody got a part number and or a price on these. I would also like to hear from someone that has bought an aftermarket block heater, I'm definately going to get one as soon as I can figure out from where.

I just got to thinking about the hair dryer idea again.
I had it in my mind that they are about 1,000 Watts and was thinking that the industrial strength "Heat Guns" might be too much.
Anyway the one in the bathroom here says 1800 Watts on it - SURPRISE.

The other thing is volume.
Figuring 4 cycle engines suck in their displacement volume once every two complete revolutions.
1,000 RPM may be a reasonable cranking speed, perhaps that is a very good cranking speed, so for round numbers a 2 liter engine sucks in 1,000 liters per minute.

Somewhere there must be a constant for rise in temperature of a unit mass of air per Watt (of electrical resistance heat energy) - and if I looked that up I could probably figure how much good 1800 Watts would do to an air flow of 1,000 liters per minute.

Option B is forget the arithmetic, just "try it" (-:

I looked at my 42 HP Kukje, the inlet to the air cleaner isn't easy to poke a hair dryer into.
I would have to take it apart to about the level required to change the air filter, not a big hassle, but certainly not something I would want to do every chilly morning.
I suppose a re-route would be possible, but I don't have enough of a problem to bother doing that.

WiskyDelta,
I don't have part numbers, mine checked out OK.
SOMEWHERE around most big US Cities there is a diesel truck mile.
My suggestion is that you find that and walk in with your three plugs, they can almost certainly cross reference them.

Thanks for the suggestion

" not a big hassle, but certainly not something I would want to do every chilly morning".

Yea I think I'll stick with a shot of ether until I get this fixed

I bought glow plugs (Part # HT17160000A3) for my 4220 and I paid $38.00 a piece. The heater I bought is a radiator hose heater. I didn't wanted to mess with taking a plug out of the engine as I wasn't sure which plug would take which heater size/thread/length.
The heater seems to help, as the engine runs smoother after only a couple seconds (compared to almost 10 seconds when not pre-heated).

I ended up ordering new glow plugs and a block heater from here:
Branson Tractors at Bill's Tractor

I will hopefully get it at the end of this week and get it installed this weekend, I will post back the results.

Glow Plugs $40 ea.
Block Heater (factory from Branson) $79.00

A while ago there was a link to a block heater manufacturer's page that listed just about every engine ever built (not quite) gas and diesel, car, truck, marine, stationary, tractor, all else.

I wish I had bookmarked it, in fact I probably did - on an old system.
These things are kinda generic; Watts, thread, length, width, etc and OEM'd the same way that things like thermostats and filters, i.e. one or two specialist manufacturers put them into whatever colored box is needed.
Just like Wix and Fram (-:
A little research might be worth while, I do remember the prices being worth an hour or two of web searching.
