Looks like I'm going to be needing a baler next year...

Anyways, I have been looking at several diffrent brands that make a 5x5 baler.

I am considering:

Vermeer Rebel series.

M&W

Krone.

Anyone know what kind of pricing I should expect?

Email Mark, CCI, on the Vermeer. He has the cheapest prices of anyone I've seen.

Vermeer are really good, however if you are looking at a 5x5 new baler of any brand get ready for sticker shock !
This is part of what Doc was talking about in the thread about it not being profitable to do your own hay for smaller operations.

A Vermeer Rebel 5500 with electric twine tie, hay-saver wheels, & counter is $14,250.

How about the Vermeer Rebel 5400 price?

With all the rain we have had here looks like my field is not going to get cut since the custom crew is running so far behind. Can I run the Rebel 5400 on a 45 net hp tractor, 40 pto hp?

I have a Vermeer 505I balor that in 1989 I gave $8000 for. It has baled around 700 bales a year and the only problems have been 3 bearings replaced, 2 tire spindles and about 10 shear pins(the newer ones have heavier bearings and spindles). I baled this year with a Kubota M6800 (62 hp) and the last three with a JD 5210(fuel upped to 55 hp) and before that a MF 285(82 hp). On flat ground 55 hp does fine, but on hilly you need 60 hp. So far this has been one fine balor and if I were getting another it would be a Vermeer and they have changed very little from my model.

Yes you can run a Vermeer Rebel 5400 with 40-45 HP. We have some customers baling hay with 3000 & 3600 Ford tractors that are not even 40 HP. When the baler is brand new you will want to use bale restrictors until you have about 50 bales on the baler. Once the baler is past the break-in period it takes less HP because the paint is worn on the inside of the baler.

CCI- does that stand for Carter and Carter? That was were I bought my balor. That one fellow that works there, I believe he told me he is eighty something, knows these balors. When I first got the balor he tuned it up(cut the belts off and adjusted the springs) and it work great after that. I am by there about a couple times a year to get twine and etc. as I live about 1 1/2 hours from there.

I have a 3600 Ford tractor that I have baled a little with and it pulls the 505I okay on flat ground and not filling the bale to maximum size. My neighbor has a 504 and he uses a Ford 3600 and bales a lot of hay with it. CCI, I would say through the years I know of at least 4 people who looked at my balor and went and bought one from you, including the neighbor who has the 504.
