Round Baler Splicing Tool

Examined my baler belts and see its time to put a few new laces on. I have the tool and what a sun of a gun to use.

No handles so I put it in the vice, put the lace in then the belt ... After I squared and trim it ... I must be doing something wrong ... I had to put a pipe on the vice handle to get it to actually crimp into the belt ... I thought I was going to break the vise.

Has anyone used these? Is there a secret? Has anyone modified it to say put handles on the tool or something? Or is it just that hard?

I just used a vise and a cheater bar on the vise handle. The instructions recommend a 6 inch vise minimum. Did you use the pressure plate and move it along the entire length?

I assume the pressure plate is seperate from the tool? If so I aint got one of them!!

What brand lacing tool do you have? I was talking about the Clipper brand Vise grip tool.
