Well, I had a little problem with no drain plug. I got my new flail mower ready. Removed the fill plug and could not see any oil. I put the funnel in and filled the funnel full of oil. Looked back a little later and funnel was still half full of oil. Removed funnel and case is not full. It must have already been half full as needed. So now I need to drain some of it out. There is no other plugs on the case and I do not have a pump. Turned the mower up on end,(it is a ditch bank mower with tilt). After about 30 minutes, I got about 1/2 inch of oil out of it. It is thick and runs real slow. I will have to see a better way to check it in the future. I may just need to turn the pto on and let the oil warm up a little. And there could still be air pockets in the case.
So I may change my vote to just turning the tractor upside down. I know it will work.
How big is the fill plug? After the oil was hot ( probably obtained with another heat source not just running it ) you could probably siphon it out.
