New Holland TC40D
Hello All,
I’m hoping you guys/girls will be able to supply me with a routine maintenance schedule for my machine. I did a search and couldn’t find anything specific.

I have a New Holland TC40D that just pasted the 600 hours this weekend. I purchased it from a used dealer (West View Tractors in Canterbury, CT). They are great if you are in the area and in the market!! Anyways, I got this machine with about 275 hours on it in. The original owner didn’t have a FEL on it, however it does have one now. I use this machine primarily to maintain my motocross track and finish mow about 10 acres. The FEL and box blade get heavy use, and sometimes for long periods of time. I’ve also used it to pull logs out of the forest and move snow piles after plowing with the truck.

My current maintenance plan consists of:
--Greasing the FEL before each use.
--Greasing all other points monthly
--Replace Engine Oil / Filter every 100 hours
--Replace Hydraulic Fluid/Filter Every 100 hours
--Replace Axle Oil Every 100 hours
--Replace Air Filter Every 100 hours
--Replace Steering Fluid Filter every 100 hours

Is this too often or not often enough?
What is the proper maintenance schedule for my machine?
Is there anything I’m neglecting?

So far this machine has cause me no troubles that I didn’t bring on myself. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Hopefully, with a good maintenance schedule it will continue that way for many more years.

Thanks in Advance,
Jay

Sounds like you want to invest in an Owner's Manual and a set of Service Books....probably about a $300 investment.

As for simple stuff.,..the sticker on the hood ( visible when you raise it ) shows the intervals.

Sounds like about a $200 per month maintenance schedule you have there.

One thing for sure: The primary air filter can be blown out and should last 400-500 hours. Mine has 350 hours, and still looks brand new after a good cleaning. My secondary filter is still pristine, and as long as it looks clean and white, it's staying right where it is.

When someone asks me if my tractor runs on diesel, I say "Yes, but it mainly runs on grease". I go through a sack full of grease cartriges in no time flat! I've gotta get me a 30gal. barrel greaser so I can complain about the cost of a barrel of grease. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Jay,

Hydraulic fluid/filter is supposed to be replaced every 300 hrs. Power steering fluid/filter every 600. I don't remember coolant but that is either every 200 or 300 hrs. As far as greasing goes, I think the manual says to grease the tractor every 50hrs and the loader every 10hrs. Since you use the loader a lot more frequent greasing is probably a good idea.

I'm trying to avoid spending $300 on a manual that I really won't need until I do an overhaul.

I'm not quite $200 a month, but maybe $400 a year or so.

Pete, Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I was looking for. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I wouldn't discount the value of that manual. I've used mine many time to troubleshoot little issues and I would have to say it saved me $cost X many....

At the very least, its a good resource to learn some of the details about the inner workings of the beast. Hydraulic flow diagrams are wonderful bathroom reading !! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

An operator's manual is much cheaper than the cost of your DIY maintainence program. The thought of what you are doing is wearing me out; let alone the expense.

Yes, get the owners manual. It has all the service outlined. Your correct, although it's nice, you probably don't need the service manual until something significant needs work.

Your hydraulic fluid/filter change interval seems much to frequent.
