A lot of people that believe in synthetic oil seem to be promoting Amsoil, but I have never heard anyone mention the Royal Purple Oil. Does anyone have any experiance with it .... good or bad??? And for the final question.... is it really purple????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junkman,

I have never personally used it, but it has been discussed in detail on "Bobistheoilguy" website by the oil heads... I am sure someone on that forum is a regular user of it and can give you some firsthand feedback.....It is Purple in color from the notes I recall seeing, as they add a dye to it... obviously it is also "high end" oil at probably $5-$7 per quart.....

Royal Purple also has a website for techincal information......I think they are in Texas, around Fort Worth...

My Kubota retired last season after loosing all the races. The dog was always faster even on the downhill stretches... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Man that makes Rotella synthetic look pretty attractive at around $12.50 a gallon.

Rotella is a group 3 and Royal Purple is 95% a group 4. RP is a better oil; hence, more $$$$$. I have seen and posted oils that are over $50 per gallon...

Just wondered since their racing (100% PAO) and regular oils are different; regular is almost a blend per say with 95% group 4 with a slight of group 1.

Cost is like $5.50 per qt and its Phosphorus is a little low(per API cert) and there TBN is like 10.X. It is not a bad oil but for the price I can get better oils for less "jingle".

It is a good oil but for the price of $5.XX makes me think. I also read that there VI is not as good as others, NV is high and the Four ball scar is high. Plus the longevity of the oil is only like 12K miles and that is after very short drains have been competed. So it takes time to build upto that interval.

I also believe that they even patented the purple color container in February.

They trademarked the use of purple containers.

From what I remember of a previous discussion about tractor colors, the courts ruled that you can not trademark a color to your exclusive use in certain cases. In other instances you can. I don't know how they would decide the oil containers color. Many oils come in black, white, red, etc. containers. I believe that it was Kioti & Kubota that got into the feud.. Here is a link to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling. web page

Oh ye of little faith. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Here's a link to an article indicating Royal Purple has indeed won a a US trademark giving it exclusive rights to package lubricants in purple containers.
