RPM\'s for tractor

This is my first tractor 3710 and I was wondering what rpm range do you keep the tractor at. I am usually between 2000 and 2500. The PTO is to be run at 2500 and I wonder if I should always keep the tractor at this level even when I am using the boxblade or just moving from area to area?

Thanks

Re: RPM\'s for tractor

To be honest I wouldn't be too concerned about it. When using non-PTO operated implements I just use judgement by feel and sound. When running a bush hog I do keep it above 2000 so the PTO speed is appropriate. Just my opinion!

Re: RPM\'s for tractor

I agree with Tony - rpm is pretty flexible. Your tractor has enough power to do a lot of things at less than 2500 engine rpm. Mowing machines work a little better at full 540 pto rpm but may do a decent job at lower speed if the grass isn't too dense. At lower engine rpm, the ground speed is lower too - so if the blades are sharp, it may cut ok.

Re: RPM\'s for tractor

Like the other guys said, it's flexible, and just nothing to be concerned about if you're not "lugging" the engine. I always ran tractors at the PTO speed when using a PTO powered implement, whether my finish mower, brush hog, or tiller, or my neighbor's haybine and baler, etc. However, if I was going somewhere here on my property, I usually ran mine under 2000 rpm, and while it'll be a little different for different tractors, and depends on how hard or fast you're working, it just seemed to me that 2200 was just about right for my B2710 when I was using the FEL and/or box blade.

Re: RPM\'s for tractor

I have touted my opinion here before that too many tractors are being run at too high of RPM for thier given task. I like too play it by ear by matching tool speed with feed speed to achieve the most efficiency.

For loader, boxblade, brushhog, Backhoe with PTO pump, I will keep tach at 1600-2000, only with the rototiller do I approach PTO rated RPM because I have a GST that goes too slow in 3rd and too fast in fourth for tilling
