RPM\'s on 1700

I want to say that my RPM gauge shows a "red line" at 2200 RPM. Full throttle will run more than that, but what is a safe maximum RPM to run a 1700 at? I will run at 2000 RPM while mowing with a 5' finish mower, but sometimes would be nice to have the extra power in the thicker stuff.

Re: RPM\'s on 1700

That little red line is not the red line we have been accustomed in that the engine shouldn't be ran past that mark. That red line is for the PTO. When you have the needle on that mark it is telling you that you have sufficient engine speed to achieve the desired PTO speed you have selected.

In the manual (I have the YM1700) it shows -Slow idle speed 800 RPM, Working speed range 1800-2400RPM.
For the PTO speeds - 540 @ 2200 & 1000 @ 2200.

Re: RPM\'s on 1700

Thanks for the information! I did not want to over-rev and possibly hurt the engine. I have been "slack" in getting manuals for this tractor, but I think it is time. Thanks again.

Re: RPM\'s on 1700

I use a 4' bushhog on my 1700 and it seems to operate at best efficiency around 1800-1900 rpm. 2000 rpm seems a little much for the tractor and even at 1800 it gives enough power to keep the engine from bogging or choking. I've read where a lot of owners of these tractors run their engines at 2200-2300 rpm but this seems to be a little on the high side for me. But, that's just me. I'm trying to get a "lifetime" out of my little jewel.
