A shout out to all RTV 1140 CPX owners.

Have any of you had a LineX or equivalent spray in liner used for your box/bed? My dealer is telling me no spray in liner can be used or else it won't fold into the smaller bed.

As I plan to use mine to move rock, logs, dirt, ect as well as my wife plans to haul beach towels, lifejackets, coolers down to the boat dock, if the bed can't be sprayed out without leaving a rusty mess behind like most pickup beds that aren't LineX sprayed, my purchase of this unit is "out".

Is anyone using the drop in liner from Kubota?

I don't supposed Kubota made the entire bed out of diamond plate aluminum did they?

This unit seems perfect for my needs, except for the worry of how to keep the bed from turning into a scratched rusty mess

I would throw in a cheap plastic tarp when doing the beach thing.

I've had my 1140 for several years...the paint is tough...no rust so far. However, I have hauled rock only a few times. I found a small metal utility trailer with manual dump bed for 300 dollars....best purchase ever....I can't recommend enough...soooooo many heavy oversized things to transport on 100+ acres...and leaves the 1140 bed free for tools, supplies to keep with you all the time (I put a plastic truck box in mine to keep rain out of my stuff). Stuff in a trailer can be left where you need it...building fence or whatever. My recommendation....purchase it for work. Work it. If you really, really want the bed to stay pretty, either get a can of spray paint and use it after every use....or make some kind of slide in/out bed liner.

It's like a tractor...beautiful when in use, a few scratches don't matter.

thanks for the response, I don't suppose you looked at the Kubota bed liner did you?

Scratches don't bother me, its when my wife lays a bunch of fresh, clean beach towels in the bed along with a couple table clothes and kids life jackets and by the short ride to the boat dock, I can imagine rust rubbing off on everything.....that's my concern..... I've got a tractor right now with a trailer I pull behind it for hauling rock that I've had to rebend the axle a dozen times now.....guess maybe I purchase another pull behind trailer and keep using my existing tractor.....get the wife a golf cart.....but I did so hope to justify some more orange paint in the garage :( ...... why wouldn't Kubota anticipate what has driven an entire industry of bed liner innovation and ensure the 1140 CPX could utilize LineX or Rhinoliner? Problem solved..... frustrating.....

Nope, YOU need more orange....on your acreage it will become your best buddy...with you always...so, find a way to keep your wife stuff clean...maybe a special trailer kept just for clean stuff?? You need more orange...and an 1140 is just right...wife will love it...mine does. A front rack would be a good start to get more cargo space...plastic clothes baskets/hampers for clean stuff??

I know nothing of the bed liner.

I just picked up a used 1140 myself and am trying to figure out what to do with the bed. Ideally, I would get Linex like I have in my pickup, but have concerns about the 2-4 seat conversion on the RTV. If I go the plywood route and build my own liner, I would need to make two different ones, one for each configuration.

Here is a thread from a TBN member who had Linex sprayed in his 1140: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/157543-rtv1140-sides-linex.html
Not sure how it is working out as this thread is almost 5 years old.

I've had my RTV1140 for 3 years now. I bought a paint on bed liner from Advance a bit over 2 years ago when they had a $40 off $100 purchase coupon which they about always have (check Fatwallet.com for Advance discount coupons).
I've hauled gravel, dirt, kids, trash (currently loaded with burn trash) furniture, etc. The (gray) paint in the bed is all still there except for a few places that are showing a bit of rust. One day I'll sand the rusted spots down and clean the bed good and paint the bed liner stuff on it.
I bought my RTV because I have grandkids and it's something they love but I've ended up using it and should have bought one 7 years earlier.
Advance Auto Parts: Search Results for bedliner kit
Some people have had acceptable performance from the spray can one and others haven't. I buy the Gallon paint on kit. I've ended up using it to paint on srteps to keep them from being slick and keep buying more to eventually do my bed.

thanks for the responses, that helps alot.....so it appears, if done carefully, one can apply a bedliner and still go from the small to the larger bed.....its just such a perfect vehicle, I hated to do anything half ***.... no grandkids yet, John Thomas, mine are still 12, 14, and 16.....but living on a lake, I hoped to have something my wife and kids could use that I could also use....bed liner, right now, is the only sticking point.....

TLJ87, I'll reach out to that member to get an update on how he had his done and if he was satisfied with the ability to convert the bed. If possible, having a professional spray in a bed liner would be my first choice....anything I do tends to wide up looking, well, like a non professional did it.....let me know what you find out on yours...also curious, as yours is used, how does the bed look? Is it steel or is that diamond plate aluminum (that would remove any concerns I have with regard to rust)

My brother in law had LineX done on his Gator and I have to say that it was about the cheapest coating I have ever seen, not much thicker than a 2 coat paint system and I cant believe anything that thin would interfere with folding anything. My RTV 900 has Rhino liner sprayed on the bed which is about double the thickness that my BIL got from LineX for $500. I have skinned up a few spots on the bed rails from hitting it with rocks and backhoe bucket and find that the spray can of truck bed liner works pretty good for touchup. Just put a couple coats on and it repairs my skinned spots. Likely it would work for lining the whole bed if it was clean and rust free. It is about $10 a can but 5 cans would put on a pretty thick coating. I don't think it is as hard as Rhino liner but it is pretty tough.

It is certainly a topic for debate, just like with the P/U boxes.

I have a Mule with a drop in liner. I routinely take it out and clean it. Sometimes just cursory and other times with detergent and pressure washer. I am always annoyed how much dirt gets under it and then you have to clean the box too! Not sure I would go for a spray liner.

It depends how rough you are on your bed as well. If you dent the sprayed liner, it will look like crap forever!

Industrial Toys, that's a good point...I'd always figured the spray in liner was nearly indestructible, but that's not likely the case........the guys at Messicks just sent me a graphic showing a plastic Kubota bed liner specifically made for the 1140 CPX ($331), part #V4451 that appears from the parts diagram to offer protection both as the short box and long box configurations.....any owners of the V4451 who would care to post some photos and lend us their thoughts? The directions do show multiple "self tapping" screws being necessary to install the liner, so that, in itself has me a bit worried I've already opened myself up to future headaches.....

One thing I don't like about the drop in liner (on the mule). It has a tendency to vibrate annoyingly at idle with the Diesel. But I would never secure it, as I find it too important to clean and dry out the bed from time to time.

Maybe a spray in liner and then a sheet of something, plastic, plywood, whatever, just to protect it if you are going to be throwing heavy stuff in there.

Then there is always the bed rails. The drop in liner protects those too.

I will never forget when I got my first NEW pickup truck. A 94 Dodge Dakota. Went to pick up some heavy apple firewood, plopped a piece up on the bedrail and volah, a NICE dent!

There was chipping/rust on the tailgate and a few other places on the bed. Part of the deal was that they would repaint the bed before I picked it up. They did an OK job. I would have preferred that they blast and paint the entire bed inside and out, but they just hit the rust spots with a grinder and primed/repainted. They also did a full service as part of the deal. Here is a picture before it was cleaned up/touched up. You can see some of the spots in the bed.

You guys are sure funny:laughing: Who would want to scratch or get a bed made for hauling "stuff" dirty.:) The best solution is to get a new one and never put anything in it. They had a bunch of Kubota tractor owners over in the other Kubota forum that waxed their tractors, thought that was sort of funny also.;)
My Uncle used to buy cars and in the 50s the door panels came covered in brown paper which he left on and he also put seat covers on. The 55 Chevy was just like new when he let his son have it a few years later and his son took all the paper off, lowered the car, removed the seat covers, drove it in low gear (automatic) peeled rubber with the tires and enjoyed the 55 Chevy and I did to after Uncle turned it over to Cuz.

Dam right you wax your tractor. Maybe the reason I got more for a twenty five year old tractor bought new when I traded it than what we paid for it. You must of course consider inflation. But you get the point.

We armouralled the tires too, and when the dealer came to look the machine over he was just flabergasted!

My bought new, JD 6200 seat has never seen the light of day again after my Mom made me a seat cover for it!

I cut a rubber stall mat to fit the bed of the RTV 900 and bolted it in with two brass toilet bolts, works great.

Some people will chime in now about the hours spent doing all that preservation work and the materials purchased and value them and then divide the purported increase in price received (not the smoke produced by the dealer) and see how much was really saved in 25 years unless time is of no value. But I'd never say that, it's those other "some people".:D
Have had family members that do all that with their machines and gives them something to do with their time to keep them out of trouble.
