It goes like a wild animal with the more aggressive tires I put on it...then I use my winch! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif If you can drive, it will take you there. No insult intended, but I've gotten dozers, backhoe's, motorcycles, trucks, ATV's, even cars through places where many people have gotten stuck with the same piece of equipment. Like I said, if you know how to drive it with good tires, it will go like you won't believe...then use your winch. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Chick
Be patient, the week ends are a little slow for responses. Most everyone is off playing on their RTV's. I have run mine through the creek bottoms and gotten stuck a couple of times. I mounted a winch and put on 26" 589's and rims and have not gotten stuck since. If you try hard enough you can get anything stuck. The RTV is a great hunting and fishing vehicle and will get you in and out just fine. We use ours for work and play and will use it during deer season.
One of my sons friends is a film major in college. This summer they made a movie and filmed the lions share of it in my woods. The RTV was a big hit with the young film makers and ferried them and their equipment to the shooting site. The RTV is featured in behind the scenes. They had over 300 people attend the premier and it was a big success. They plan on another movie next summer, so the RTV will be pressed back into service. These are an amazing group of young people and I believe they will go far.

You can go with a 26" tire with out having to install a lift kit, a 27" is iffy, depending on the tire make. I would be leery of going larger because it can affect your gearing ratio and put extra stress on your CV joints and other drive train components. I went with the 589's because of the terrain and creek bottoms and we have a 660' drive to keep clear of snow. I have no shifting problems with the 589's.

ive got about 50 hours on my rtv now and mostly use it for hauling firewood out of our woods, which is up and down hills and revenes. i have trouble shifting it out of gear when on a hill of any kind, does anybody else have this problem?

rtv,

Welcome to TBN.
Oh yea, we've been down the difficult shifting path several times on this forum.
Sounds like you should start with the emergency brake solution. Check out this thread first. tranny questions on my RTV
Look for the posts on using the emergency brake.

If that doesn't work, respond to this thread or do a search on "tranny", "transmission", "hill" in this forum.

I believe Dargo found that changing the tranny fluid and filters also helped his shifting issues.

Please fill out your profile. A general idea of where you live helps a lot in responses.

Brian

Yes, bczoom is correct. I had a terrible problem with the RTV coming out of gear, especially on a hill. I changed both transmission filters and used Kubota Super UDT fluid and the problem immediately went away. Apparently small particles from the break in process collect in the filters and somewhat clog them. That then creates back pressure in the transmission, thus keeping pressure on the gears. My dealer told me that it wouldn't take much pressure at all on the gears to make them hard to shift.
Hopefully it works for you. It definitely did for me. Also, I do have to use the emergency brake at times when stopping on a steep hill, but usually not. I went from rather ticked, to a happy camper. Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CHICK You can use the RTV for what you mention. But I would recommend a good winch if you plan to go out alone. Good Luck. cag

Hey Brian, Have you tried to price the Maxxis Bighorn Radials lately? I was considering putting them on my Rhino because they seem to work so well. Anyway, all of the places I looked up to check on prices for them said that the Bighorns were the biggest seller this year and nobody has them! I guess they must work well on other UV's as well!
