I have several gates on my property that I open with my truck using a standard Texas Gate opener, which I understand in other parts of the country is called a Grill Guard. :)

I have rubber covers over the vertical members of my grill guard (Ranch Hand Brand)that keeps the powercoat from being scraped off when I "open" the gate.

I would like to do the same thing using my RTV grill guard, but I have no "scarifical" protection (i.e. rubber to cover the steel). Has anybody modified the guard on their RTV to do this? My first thought was to strap on some foam pipe insulation covers over the steel, but that seemed kinda like a rinky-dink solution. Any Ideas?

The foam will probably rip.

There's lots of hoses that could be used.
Radiator hose
Clothes washer hose (if it's the right diameter to match the smaller pipe).
Sludge/irrigation hose

Slit it the long way, slide it on and zip-tie it in place.

Hydraulic suction hose would be a great hose to use. It has a very tough cover with a single cloth braid, should provide plenty of protection. I would contact cement it to the tubes using hose clamps at the ends to secure it.
