RTV or factory Gasket when transmission together?

I am starting to put my transmission back together, and was wondering if rtv sealant for the front/rear transmission covers and axle tubes would be adequate or if I should order the factory gaskets. I have always had good luck with gasket maker in the past, but would hate to put it back together only to find a leak once it was all done. Am I safer ordering factory gaskets and installing them? They would be about $80 for the 4 gaskets. Your thoughts are always appreciated as many of you out there have more experience putting these back together then I do.

It works quite well to use something like this: Anaerobic Gasket Makers & Flange Sealants : Permatex. Some agricultural manufacturers use only anaerobic sealers and no gaskets at all on major transmission assemblies. I use it all the time when I don't have a gasket.
