Here are a few pics of my RTV and Rhino in our recent heavy snow. On the 23rd, right after we received about 2 feet of snow, the Rhino would go through the yard but the RTV didn't. However, after two days of the snow settling to about 18", the RTV actually does better than the Rhino. I actually tied a snatch strap to the trailer hitch of each and we had a pull off of sorts. The RTV never spun a tire and always drug the Rhino off backwards! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I suppose the weight difference made it no contest.

The temp is now up to a toasty 15 degrees, so all five kids and I are out pulling sleds with the RTV and Rhino. Attached is just 3 pics. In this first pic of the Rhino, note the snow being pushed ahead of the front bumper. It was not stuck, just stopped so I could get a pic! If you look, you'll see my riding buddy in the bed of each vehicle. I can't use either my RTV or Rhino without him hopping in. I guess dogs want to have fun too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Merry Christmas to all!

Here is one of the RTV in about 18" of snow. It can actually pull three sleds in this amount of snow! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Okay, last pic. I just had to show post one where you could clearly see my buddy riding in the back! Driving is my lovely "middle" daughter, Megan. She will get her black belt in karate in two more weeks. My buddy in the back guards Megan closely; the two make a formidable combination. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good pics, but if that is 18" of snow, those tires must be about 55" in diameter. Looks more like about 6" of snow to me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nope, since posting I went and measured it. It is still 20" of snow! The difference is that the bottom layer has frozen hard and it allows the RTV and Rhino to ride up on it some. That is where the RTV is really beating the Rhino now. The Rhino has enough power to spin hard and sink, where the RTV is smooth and has less power. That translates into the RTV power range being perfect for this particular snow. When it was all fluffy, the RTV sank and got stuck while the lighter Rhino was able to ride up on it some. The bottom of the Rhino has the full skid plate package and it floated up somewhat in the really deep snow. At no point has either UV dug up any grass or mud. Back to playing, I'm warmed up again! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ah, love a good challange! Surprisingly enough, the snow has settled or melted another couple of inches since this morning. Here is a picture of a tape measure in the snow directly in front of the front tire of the RTV. With all the playing today, it was almost hard to find an "unspoiled" spot to take a measurement. Anyway, you can see that it is 16". Honestly, it was 18" this morning. I don't know who took the other two inches!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Warm ground underneath will take the 'snow' down too, and I do understand the 'riding on top' of the ice layer. Thanks for the pic of the tape measure. So far, we've had little to no snow, except this morning we had a couple of real fluffy inches. It did get up to 17° today. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ahhh, the best part of 18" deep snow is it doesn't take hours to clean the machine as opposed to mud.

I wish we had some snow... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif We only have a dusting but the RTV made it through just fine /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jesse,
No pictures of your machine in the snow? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Are there any HPX owners that have similar experiences with their machines in deep snow? I know the original gators had a hard time once the snow got deep enough to float it on the floorboards..

beautiful dogs!
