RTV shift lever sticking

Sweet!!

I too would have started with the lower linkage for the adjustment. Now... after adjusting the top, did you need to change any others as well (to get it to the neutral detent or anything)? Did you by chance try extending it just a little more to see if you could get even more speed?

In this thread it states the tension bolt should have a thread clearance of 22mm for the new style speed control. With the old style that we have the clearence is 20mm. What is the equivelant in inches to 20mm? Look at the page below.

Fred,

Not sure I'm understanding your last post. I didn't see any references to mm measurements in the thread I linked to. The web page you referenced doesn't exist.

1mm = 1/32"
22mm = just under 7/8"
20mm = just under 13/16"

I am confused on the linkage with all the going back and forth on the old and new parts. Someone tell me if this is correct:

Old, abrupt stop - damper should be in top hole
New, smoother stop - damper should be in second hole

Sorry about the confusion.

Yes, Old = abrupt stop.
The speed control assembly part is the steel piece that has all the linkages attached.
The damper is the piece that goes rearward and bolts somewhere towards the back (sorry about the vague description but I haven't looked at it in awhile. It's pictured a couple times in this thread.

New, smoother stop - damper should be in second hole)</font>

The damper (and all linkages) go in the same spot (holes) regardless of which speed control assembly is in place. For the "old" style assembly, the damper should be mounted above the mounting bracket where it attaches in the rear. For the new style damper, it should be slung under the rear mount.

Hope this makes sense...
Brian

PS. Attached is a pic of the rear mounting of the damper. Notice it's slung under the mounting bracket so this pic was taken when the "new" style (non-abrupt stop) assembly was in place.
