RTV spray on bedliner?

I contacted my local Car Quest store, they have Herculiner (black) on sale for $59. I going to give it a try. The Gray and Red are usually $140+/gal. The black is regularly $120+. I am going with black.

I used enough of the Herculiner to supposedly do a full sized pickup in the back of my RTV. I would call it a complete waste. Not only was it nothing but thick paint, but it cost me extra to have the crap removed when I had a real spray in liner done. Unless you use the 2 part epoxy type do it yourself mix, you are not only wasting money, but are creating a problem and expense for when you need to have it done right. If you want to see how it looks in an RTV, I have pictures of my RTV with the Herculiner in it. It "looked" fine, but offered zero protection.

Herculiner was on clearance at my local Sam's Club and my MIL bought me some for $25. I may use it to paint the under side of my trailer. Maybe it will offer better protection from rocks bouncing off the road than regular paint, but I'm not really convinced it will.

someone asked the difference between Line-X and rhino liner. I have Line-X on my silverado. My research showed two major differences.

1. Line-X is put on hot and dries in place very rapidly.
Rhino liner is a cold application and can run down the sides of your bed while drying. Line X gives a more constant uniform thickness.

2. Warranty: Line-X is warranted by the manufacturer. If i have a problem with my Line-X liner I can go to any Line-X dealer and they will repair it.
Rhino is warranted by the dealer. If the dealer that installs it goes out of buisness or you move etc you are out of luck.

Those are the reasons I chose Line-X over rhino liner. Both of the liners give a great finish and I would never think of having a truck bed without one.

59.00 you got a good deal that stuff is not to cheap.i wish they had green lol. but i'm gonna put black on my hpx too.as long as you follow the directions it will holdup. heck the cheap walmart stuff that you spry on is doin a so so job in my bed and i haul bricks all the time. so i know this herculiner has to be alot tougher that that stuff. just follow the directions and take your timemake sure you scuff up the surface good . i'm gonna do my floor boards too but i'm gonna add crushed pecan shells to the one i put on the floor boards that or sand. i'm gonna test it out on a plate first to see what it looks like first. i just got through adding my overhead console and stereo and i'm putting in my amp tomorrow.the bed liner comes next.

Dargo's reply has me wondering. Tommy have you used this before?

In case you think I jest, here is a pic from when I put in a whole gallon of Herculiner in the bed of my RTV. Note the date on the pic. That was right after I got it and fell for the line that "it's just as good but costs a lot less". It cost me considerably more than I paid for it to have it removed so a real spray in liner could be applied.

P.S. When I had a real spray in liner applied, I also had them do the footwell area and the floor where the rubber mat used to be. That works great there! It quiets things down more and will not trap water and grit under it like the rubber mat does.

Just an update I ended up going with the Line-X on my bed and floor, I also had them go ahead and do the front brush guard as well.
Looks really good, one thing I was a little suprised at is how much more quiet it seems to be now...
Eventually I think it would look real good if all the ROPS were done... just a though...
Overall very happy with it but a little pricey..

My exact thoughts. The added sound suppression was a nice, and welcomed, surprise. I agree with it being a bit pricey, but it sure is nice and there is no comparison to the cheapo roll on Herculiner I first used. I'm told that you can buy the two part, one use, spray in kit and do it yourself with the same results. To my understanding you get a one use spray gun, reducer at least two separate bottles that you mix just before spraying and whatever stuff you need to do the job. Here is an auction on eBay for that kind of a true "spray" in liner: eBay Motors: SPRAY IN on BEDLINER KIT BED LINER FREE GUN BLACK KIT (item 190046483566 end time Nov-04-06 05:49:28 PST)

You'll notice that you get 3.5 gallons of material rather than the one gallon of like you get with the roll on junk. I would think that if you had everything prepared, you could pretty well do everything you'd need on an RTV with one kit. I also noticed that you can pick the color you'd want. I think that the matching dark grey would look nice.

Dargo,
Yeah I agree the dark grey would look good, I was going to get that in the Line-X however they wanted $200 more for the color change over black as they said they would have to clean the gun etc...
Needless to say I went with black :)
I do love the way it makes the front look though in black...
