RTV- towing info & current best pricing?

Hello Guys,

Just cancelled my order for Mules after discovering the RTV. Please give me your take on towing... I need to tow 1800lbs. boats around our facilities... I am concerned about the single axle trailers w/ heavy tounge weights lifting (popping the front up) the RTV. In addition, what is the best price you guys have found on the GP model (basic)??? Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you about the current best prices, but I can comment on towing with an RTV. I use my RTV to move my empty trailer around my property. Empty my trailer weighs about 3400 pounds. When there is dew on the grass early in the morning I have to avoid going down hills, as I will get pushed. I'd assume that if I could get a setup on the RTV to use the trailer brakes even that issue would be solved. I don't think you will have an issue with the weight you are talking about towing.

I agree with Dargo on the towing. You shouldn't have any problem towing 1800#. I would make sure the draw bar you use isn't very long. Not sure what kind of tongue weight you're going to encounter but if the draw bar is real long, it may be the weak point.

I was given a price of $9950 on the rec. model and $10400 on a worksite. i am sure the basic is a little less. this was at fiser tractor in alexander arkansas.

look for my post on "really testing my TRV's towing ability" and you will see that I tried towing a 3200 lb trailer with two people aboard UP a fairly steep hill.. and it did it. It was over double my tongue weight rating too.. No problem at all. Super tough vehicle.

Because I am less than pleased with my local Kubota dealer, I went and drove a diesel HPX today. It was a really nice unit, but it honestly does not compare with the RTV. Notes I made in comparison; huge difference in the frame strength, hydro transmission vs. belt drive, no power steering on the HPX, smaller bed on the HPX, much less weight to the HPX, less passenger room on the HPX, less towing capacity on the HPX, and less cargo carrying capacity on the HPX. Even with my really liking the looks of the HPX better, and the JD dealer having superior service, I just can't trade to an HPX. It is a nice machine, but for the same $'s, there is no comparison. Actually on the $'s, by the time I added the power dump, the ROPS, and bedliner, the prices were more for the HPX.

I found the same thing, dargo, when I too compared these two nachines.. no comparison.. Think it as an S10 to a 2500 hd Chevy pick up
And both being same price..

If you were planning on purchasing Mules, then that would be your comparison point. Having owned a Mule for 6 years and just buying an RTV a month ago, I can tell you for sure the RTV will pull ANYTHING the Mule will pull, and pull the Mule too! You're really entering another class completely with the RTV. It may not be as fast as some others, it may make more noise, but by George it will haul the groceries when called upon. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Rigged up a gooseneck hitch in ours for the local roseo parade. Pulled a 24' gooseneck deckover flatbed trailer. Figured we had about 6000lbs behind it. Pulled the full parade route and then back up(yes, literally) to the shop. Had to hit lo for the hill, but pulled it no prob. Also pulled an old 50's Studebaker car away from the building to get it on a trailer. Car had 3 flat tires and was on concrete. RTV was in low range on gravel. Pulled it no problem---oh, car was also in gear, didn't realize that till we saw the skid marks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
