I had my RTV in to the dealer to get the front mud flaps and speedo put on (only because they did for free).
Just noticed that they put one of the front wheels on inside out (valve stem towards inside). But... on closer inspection, it now sticks out about 1". I was thinking of flipping them all around and giving myself a 2" wider footprint/stance. Outside of the fact that all the valve stems would be harder to reach, does anyone see a problem with doing this? Looking at all the steering, drive and other components, I haven't seen anything that would appear to be a problem and the tires are still inside the wheel wells so I won't get covered with spray from the tires.

Thoughts?

if there is NO clearence problems with the suspension traveling fully thru its travel I do not see a problem..

Hi...

May put more pressure/wear on the wheel bearings/axles... this happens to cars/trucks...

Going down a slight grade on smooth asphalt, I can get my RTV to 29.5 mph. I just can't get to 30 unless it's down a larger hill. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif However, on the paved road, I do get a constant 27.5 mph now as long as the road is flat. When brand new it would only run 25 mph. Now I can run 25 mph in the grass, off road. Let me know how you come out with the wheels reversed. I'd like a slightly wider stance. The valve stems wouldn't be an issue for me since the wheels are so full of sealant that I likely don't need the valve stems. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Your dealer put one of the wheels on inside out!!!???

I have some hills at my place where I bet you can reach 50 or 60mph if you put it in neutral at the top! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Alright, that does it. I'm putting twin turbos, a propane system, and raise the governer speed to 6000 rpm on my RTV! I'll get 60 mph out of it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dave_in_CT - I think I'm going to flip them. Looking at everything, I wouldn't expect any issues with the bearings, axles or otherwise.

Dargo - I get the exact 29.5.

Lloyd123 - You wouldn't believe this dealership... They are just now able to spell RTV. Still can't get any accessories for them... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

avorancher - I have the same types of hills (my property goes back 1200 feet but goes up 300 in that distance). I may be able to reach 50 but at that point I need to turn 120 degrees or eat the tree in front of me. Either would be ugly... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Dargo (re. the turbos and 6000 RPM's). Give 'er a go and let us know how it turns out. I'll bet thread would get a lot of views and responses!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Frank - Are you still running your oversized tires? If so, I'll bet you can get a little over 30 mph.

I switched the rims around. Front still fit nicely under the wheel wells. The rear just come to the outside of the well (the plastic fender). Surprizingly, we're having a nice day here. I want to try it on some wet ground to see if I'm going to get any spray up along side the machine. I'll keep you posted.

Took the RTV up the road yesterday. A good hill on the return. I got it up to about 32 or 33 (needle was in the "H" of the MPH written on the bottom of the speedo. Not sure if it could have gone any faster. The tranny doesn't allow much free wheel and was holding it back.

BTW - When you do get up to full speed, be sure to be very gradual when letting off the accelerator. About a month ago, I had a car coming at me at the bottom of the same hill (where there's a turn) so I let off the gas so we weren't going to pass so quickly at the curve. I only let off about 1/2 way but it was enough to break the tires free and leave a nice skid mark. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It still felt solid and went straight but not sure what would have happened if I was on loose gravel or a non-dry surface.

Kind of interesting how folks are talking about get these units to go faster. I went out and looked at the RTV yesterday at a dealer and was some what dissapointed in how they set these units up. The camo units don't come with a bed lift unless you pay a 1050.00 for an add on. Those beds are really heavy I don't see my wife lift a load of mulch with out a lift. They had 8 units there and 4 different models... some with lifts some with speedometers... confusing which ones had the speedometer... the camo did and turf one did but the others didn't... not sure the combinations are so different and the tires....

The next thing I noticed was the tranny is all one unit connect to the motor... wow if that ever breaks what a nightmare... What is that rubber flap over the battery? It looked like an after thought as it is just intertube tickness and flew out of place after a test drive. The dealer told me that I had to buy a fuel filter as it doesn't come with one from the factory and that would be 30 dollars... now that is interesting.

The unint rode nice except I couldn't adjust the seat for my short legged daughter. Nice machine over all... after I got use to the hydro peddle!

thre camo is the only model with a speedo standard. The others were added by the dealer.
The worksite & the turf model have the hydraulic bed lifts standard too.
About the battery cover. Most others have no cover at all.
About the engine/trans... I don't believe that the engine and trans are one.

I think your dealer is just tying to get another $30 with that additional fuel filter. There's already a factory inline filter installed. The additional filter appears to be more of a water separator/filter that would perhaps be useful in applications where there's a good chance of fuel contamination. If you have a clean source of diesel I don't think it's necessary.

The only RTV900 that comes with a speedometer is the Camo. Your dealer must be accessorizing to get a little more profit.

The engine/transmission may be more complex but it's also more sophisticated and has better performance that a belt drive. Hopefully Kubota reliability will be part of the RTV900 experience as well.

There is a cheaper after market lift from:

http://www.dirt-works.net/kubota.htm

About $700.

Edit - I looked at a diagram of the accessory fuel filter and noticed that it doesn't seem to have a drain plug so I doubt that it can be used as a water separator. It just must be a larger filter than the inline stock filter. I still think that under normal operating conditions you don't need the larger filter - only if you operated in a very dusty environment or maybe a situation where your diesel fuel storage might not be the cleanest.

Well, I've had my rims reversed for awhile now. No problems and I'm not getting spray from the tires. Honestly haven't been able to notice much difference with the wider stance. The machine is so stable anyway.

BTW - Fired up the computer this morning (Saturday) and couldn't believe the number of posts from last night. Did everyone east of the Mississippi get rained in last night? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
