Not a mechanical genius here. Won't start, battery checks OK. Test light shows all good at hot terminal at starter and at flat lead at starter??

Is it cranking? If no crank, check the safety interlocks. If it is cranking, is there fuel?

It sounds to me like you are saying that the starter does not work. Most starters have power to them all the time, but it is not connected to the starter motor until the solenoid is energized by the start switch. If you have a neutral interlock switch on your shifter, then it might not be sensing neutral as JB suggested. I would sure be looking for a faulty safety interlock if there was no problem with the battery and the starter would not operate.

yea giggle the shifter if that don't work check the solenoid . the way to check the sloenoid is to jump the starter off from the back of it "atleast thats the old way i do it" if it still don't do nuthin then it's the starter. oh by the way how old is the rtv?

Dang it, I got power to the starter but don't know crap about all this neutral jigglin safety switch. All I know is the thing won't start and the battery is good and I got power to the starter. I have checked all fuses and they are good. It is in neutral and no the fuel ain't gelled in this 60 de freakin gree heat. The flat lead on the selonoid is also showing good with the test light.

So it does absolutely nothing? Like one of the other guys said saying "it wont" start doesn't help much...

ok on the solenoid there are two places where the wires conect try jumping it right there"touch the two together" that will tell you if the solenoid is bad. if it still doesn't do anything i put my money on the starter.that is if you jump the right wires .

Tested as recommended, it was the starter. Dealer and parts store both said that you have to buy both the starter and selonoid. Dealer was $285 parts store was $168. Installed and working fine.

Glad you got it fixed. I saw a guy on Ebay selling them for $169 when I was searching to try and find a picture of your starter. The $168 is probably as good a deal as you could find. Can you tell us what the "parts store" is? NAPA? Other? I think I discovered that the starter used on the RTV is the same as several other Kubotas. I'd bet that is why you found it other than at the dealer.

Searching to find info on your starter was very helpful for me. The starter on my tractor from New Holland is around $600. Just the solenoid is over $300. I found starters for the Shibaura N844 and N844L engines for $169 and a complete rebuild kit for $79. If I ever need a new starter, I'll be prepared. I would have never found this if I hadn't been searching for your RTV starter.:D

was it the brushs in the starter ?if so could it have been cheaper to rebuild it?did you take it apart to see?i paid i think 70.00 for the brush kit for my hpx starter to rebuild it verses buying a new one. next question do you still have the old starter ?if so why not try to rebuild it and keep it as a spare being you already bought one to replace it. i don't think you ever posted how old the unit was unless i missed it.
