Brian,

I think there's a fair amount of tolerance variation with the dash and the glove box as I didn't have to loosen any bolts to install mine. I don't think it will sag vertically either as the bottom of the dash seems to support the top of the box fairly well. Also, as mentioned by nearly everyone, it probably can't hold enough to add that much weight anyway. I think it's big enough to hold a couple wrenches, screwdriver, etc. and seeing how there so little other storage space in the RTV900, even the smallish glove box is an improvement. The lock is pathetic. I don't belive the ignition/glove box lock actually require a key to move. You could probably stick anything in the lock and it would turn.

Brian,

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you might not want to secure anything too valuable (i.e. hand gun) as the lock mechanism is truly worthless. I was so hung up on how little it was that I forgot to mention that earlier. Sorry about that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I had the same difficulties as you when installing it with the clearance. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I tried to turn the ignition/glove box with some small implements - screwdrivers - and it wouldn't turn. That's better than I thought but obviously all RTV900's have the exact same key if it will work in both the ignition and glove box when you don't even get both from the factory at the same time. If you look at the key you'll notice that it's not even cut - it looks like the shape was stamped.

Kevin and George,

I'm going to apply what I commonly use called the "6 week rule". If after that period, I don't like it it'll get changed or removed or ???

I would probably replace the OEM lock with an aftermarket latch that doesn't lock. I won't be able to keep the pistol in it but will throw gloves or whatever inside. At least I'll have a latch that can be turned to open the door as opposed to a tug which is the current method.

After I throw tools or whatever I put in there, I'll watch for sagging. I can either shim out the bottom where it is bolted on or put something in from the top to hold it in place.

I'll let you know in 6 weeks. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Okay, I decided that I wanted to fill the hole where the glovebox belonged with something, so I ordered the parts and put together the Kubota glovebox. Sorry, but I can't resist; what the #$%*! is Kubota thinking!!?? I've gotten better quality items with my kid's Happy Meals from McDonalds for Christ sake!!

I heard that it was made rather poorly, but this is crazy. Holy cow! Kubota likely saved, what, 50 cents by not including that piece of crap as a standard feature?! Or, more likely, they were afraid that people would turn and run from the RTV figuring that Kubota probably cut corners everywhere! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I have the front of the box held up with black wire ties so it doesn't sag from it's own weight. I'm afraid to actually put a pair of leather work gloves in it! Man, that the door, what an engineering marvel that is. I'd bet it would stop armor penetrating rounds. Not! I need to go buy some fiberglass to try to strengthen the door to the point where it doesn't pop open every time I touch the throttle or hit a bump over 1/4" high.

I'm just glad that I didn't bother with blowing my money on the under the hood storage compartment. I can only imagine what a jewel it is! Kubota! Wake up and stop ripping off the people who put you where you are!! Kubota ought to be absolutely ashamed.

Oh well, I guess I shouldn't have beat around the bush. I guess I should have really said what I think about the quality of Kubota's accessories. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I guess that front drive shaft rattle (that my dealer says I'm the only person in the country with - and stalled me until I was out of warranty) will be drowned out by the sounds of the glovebox falling apart.

Yea, let's not have any of that beating around the bush!!! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I tried to say what you did but it just didn't come out the same /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

So ... let me see if I got this right ..... you don't really like the glovebox? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I actually get a huge chuckle out of the OEMs trying to grab some of that aftermarket money. Same thing happened with the Honda Goldwing .... Honda saw what kind of bucks the average Wing owner was spending on goodies (some guys have doubled their purchase price with all the chromed dogcrap) and wanted to get in on the action. But their basic products cost more and are nowhere near as good as the "experts".
Thinking on it, why would I expect that Kubota - which makes fantastic diesels - would be expert at designing baubles. Likely outsource the whole thing to the lowest cost factory in China ... after all, we're talking plastic here. What's the bet that they never even tried to install this glovebox in an RTV?

Sorry to hear about your experience ... but I do appreciate the product testing ... no glove box in my future /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Mine just started rattling under the front end. I only notice it when it is running and not moving. Is that when you hear yours?

I thought it was under the front hood at first. If you leave it idling and crawl under it, I bet you'll find that it is the drive shaft that comes out of the front of the transmission going to the front differential. There are two front drive shafts, the furthest rear of the two is what is really loose on mine.

I took mine apart and packed them with as much grease as I could get on the splines. That keeps it quiet for about an hour. Then you have a nice mess under the RTV where it has been slinging the grease off. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have a feeling this is going to get nasty. This problem started long before I ran out of warranty and Kubota refused to acknowledge the problem. Now I'm out of warranty and it keeps getting worse. I'd have to assume that the front drive shafts will either strip the shaft coming out of the tranny, or the shaft yokes will strip. Either way, Kubota won't do anything about it and seems to be willing to screw us guys who bought their RTV's when they first came out. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Nice, that's the sign of a great company! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Since the problem started before the warranty expired I would think that Kubota would honor that repair issue.
