RTV900 IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE

Wow! surprising news! It makes me wonder under what conditions the RTV has to be in for the hood to come off? Yikes! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It's actually very hard to get the hood to come off, even when there is a problem with the hood brackets (unprimed bracket adhesive application/installation). I'm sure Kubota just wants people to be safe out there when operating their RTV(s).

I know the Kubota only goes 25mph, but I was in a car once that lost it's hood at 55mph and I'm lucky to be here. It ripped off both hinges, put a huge dent in the roof as it left the car and flew for hundreds of feet before skidding to a stop (giant frisbee) on the road. Thankfully it didn't decide to exit through the windshield or hit any other car in the process.

However...I do have a hard time picturing the Kubota hood flying off like that. I know that the leading edge of the plastic hood is like a razer-blade cause I sliced my finger open clearing away brush once.

If you have a windshield then I would assume there's no immediate need to stop using your RTV900 and call a dealer.

I also received the same recall notice - four individual mailings on the same day! Anyone know what the actual repair is?

my local Kubota dealer called me to bring a truck/trailer over to pick it up for the recall! I told em to just remove the hood/hinges and take it back. lol.. Next week he is coming over. Apparently there is a test to see if your hood will come off.
Now thats service..:)

There is no "repair"...I believe the plan is to just replace the hoods with new ones that have the properly applied/installed brackets.

If the hood's plastic surface is primed/prepped (etched) correctly in the bracket areas the adhesive bond is very strong. You will actually bend the metal brackets before the adhesive will even think about breaking loose.

Howdy Jippy!
I got four recall notices about my RTV also. Kubota might be able to save a little money on postage if they would just send one.
Here is one for the weird file, I drove the RTV down the lane to get the mail. I left it running while I took the mail in the house (I had received recall #2 in this batch of mail btw). When I walked back outside, the RTV suddenly got louder. I started looking and the exhaust pipe had broke off at the flange where it bolts up to the manifold. Boy, that little three cylinder diesel can really rumble when you run straight off the manifold. I think the recall cursed my RTV. Four nuts and one bolt hold the exhaust assembly on and none were loose or missing. I suspect the exhaust pipe had been cracked since new. It was strange, the machine was sitting when the pipe broke completely off. Might be a freak thing to happen but I would suggest the others check their exhaust, especially if you have an enclosed cab.

I didn't heed the advice to park my RTV until after my hood is replaced after getting the notice. After I got my twin turbos spooled up and had the ole RTV running about 95mph, that hood started shakin' and I had to slow down. Somebody coulda got hurt! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Seriously though, it appears that the air flow would hold down on the hood for the most part when driving the RTV. And, I believe that there will be a limited breeze at 25 mph. My only complaint is that I want my gauges! Waaa! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It was a dirty trick for my dealer to have me spend two hours loading up my RTV and taking it in to him to only have my gauges changed to ones that still fog up, but now do not work! At least before my gauges worked and until they completely turned white I could not read them. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just my part to tease about the Important safety recall. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'd rather have my guages work. When they change my hood, (yes, mine is a very early serial number one) I'm going to have to buy a new antenna for my wireless wench. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I super glued it to the underside of the hood after it came loose several times. I doubt that it will come off in one piece. Anybody else out there do that??
