Greetings Sarg,

I can't speak for others . . but a clamp-on ability is much preferred over any bolt on options. In addition . . my driveway and sidewalks are primarily a "broomed finish". A board (green or normal) will shred instead of wear because wood has graining to it. A dense nylon or non-brittle vinyl has no graining so it will wear instead of shred. I don't think a board would last an hour.

Also . . I would assume a board would tend to split along the grain line formed by the carriage bolts if it hit a slight elevated lip of concrete . . . Because a board would offer no "give". Unless we were talking about a 4 x 4 or 4 x 6 post etc..

While the snowedge is 300 bucks, a refill snowedge "blade" is 50 bucks unless I found a substitute refill material I could duplicate. If the material lasts 30 to 32 hours of plowing/backdragging time and a board lasts even 2 hours (still think 1 hour is more likely) . . 15 of those 52" boards would be the same as/or more than the cost of the refill . . and I'd be bolting and unbolting 15 times.

But I can always be wrong :)

Well ... We will find out. I ordered the "Snow Edge" last night for the smaller machine ( $380 with an extra edge ) and will mount a 2 x 6 on the T1530. Then we will play around with the upcoming snow storms and see how well they work.

What a great way to actually test the process.

Part one was delivered today & I've decided that part two with the 2x6 on the T1530 would not be worth the effort.
The big tractor will only be used if we were to get buried like Buffalo did last year ...... and then I wouldn't give a crap about scratching the black top anyway.

One item I am concerned about is the snow will not release from the bucket with all the hardware in it. Too bad ...... I spent a couple hours painting the inside so it would plop out.

Just spray with PAM before use... should plop right out ;)

Greetings Sarg,

I'd offer two thoughts:

1. The snow edge as I undetstand it . . Is designed to help keep the the snow curling (instead of scooping ). As a result unless the snow is greater in quantity . . Its going to move in front of you almost like a plow when slushy. When greater in quantity it will fill the bucket . . . and then you go to #2.

2. If you have fresh and pretty new paint in that bucket . . Get a spray can of mower deck polymer. One clear spray coat should last you all snow season. What will it do? It makes everything slippery . . Bucket . . Snow edge . . . Whatever. Unlike a silicone or a spray oil or lubricant . . It is a plastic micro atomizing polymer that is better than a teflon yet clear and won't etch or discolor that shiny equipment. Once a season . . not every snow application. Also keeps any grass from sticking in that bucket lol.

IIRC Both are made by the same company. So I assume same/similar formulation just relabeled.

I've used the 1st one. 2 coats on my mulching mmm and I pulled deck last week for the winter . . still clean or wipes off with a rag after entire summer's use. But I thoroughly cleaned before applying. Your new paint should be a great surface for snow. Of course summer bucket activity is a different story as dirt and sand and rocks aren't as grntle as snow or grass lol.

By the way . . . I've opted to paint my snow edge to massey red and then I'll spray coat it with the polymer too. A red snow edge in a black bucket on a red gc1715 is nice looking lol.
