If you sandwich the rubber between the blade and wear bar it much more secure.

I use old conveyor belt rubber. I pick up old scraps from a rock quarry. They last a long time. I use them on all my snow plows/pushers. I run a 48" plow on my quad and just this year changed the rubber strip after about 10yrs 5yrs on each side. The last strip I had on that was 1/4" thick. The new one is 7/16. Should last a long time. It works awesome and doesn't scrape up asphalt or concrete and goes over gravel and grass without tearing it up.

It won't cut compact snow and ice so I just make sure I get out before everyone starts driving down the driveway.
