farm pro 2420
I started my Little farm pro 2420 , the rpm raced , I cut the switch pulled the air shut off , NOTHING , had to jump off , tried to shut off the air supply to stop it , it kept running ,but RPM's came down as long as I restricted the air , finally had a friend take off the fuel line to stop it, I have no clue as to why it ran up and why I could not stop it ,, any answers and what is next for me to fix it . just to add I broke my ankle the tractor has always ran and cut off fine , it has been setting for about 2 months before I started it this time , uses no oil , and I run it all day non stop with a hog behind it I have not checked the oil in the pump , I am new to this tractor just learning about it , my dad was the tractor guy but he is gone ,I am a car guy gas engines

air leak into the fuel system

It's either burning engine oil, diesel fuel, or hydraulic oil through the pump.

Oil - coming from the crank case
Fuel - coming from a malfunctioning injector pump
Hydraulic Oil - bad seal in the hydro pump dumping hydro oil into the crank case

Since it's at start up, I would be looking at the injector pump. Has it been setting for any length of time? Any other unusual signs of trouble like erratic idle? Water in the fuel?

The fuel source is one problem.

The air shutoff is another problem.

I broke my ankle and the tractor has set for about 2 months , never had a problem with it , but I only had it for about 6 mths , it always ran fine , stars super fast always stops when the air shut off was pulled , have not checked the oil in the pump , I am new to the tractor , foot still broke so I can't investigate too much now

Sorry to hear about your ankle. Broke mine a few years back, so I feel for you. Sorry that I somehow missed that you plainly stated the tractor had been setting for about two months.

Normally, setting up won't affect the pump. I have started equipment that's been setting for years and had no problems with the pump, but I have also had a few cases were a tractor would set under the shelter for a few months and mysteriously develop pump problems. In at least two cases, the pump shop found fuel contamination (water/rust) or sludge that had harden in the pump and cause the problem.

I can't say for sure this is the problem, but I have seen it happen. You may want to call a good pump shop in your area and explain to them what happen. They may know of some more specific issues with your style pump and be able to offer some suggestion.

I had a similar experience with my Kubota diesel B2320. The issue with mine was that water in the fuel had apparently rusted the injectors so that when I started it up it revved above 4000RPMs regardless of the throttle setting. Since it's a diesel, turning the key to shut off had no effect, I had to pull the fuel like off (because in my panicked state, I did not think to open the hood and try to choke off the air supply to the engine). I had to replace the engine in it at 2 years old! Since I have ongoing issues with water in the fuel due to condensation, even though I put diesel dry in the tank and keep it topped off after nearly every use. I'm not moving my two 5 gallon gas containers indoors (instead of storing them on the ground in my open tractor shed).

thanks I do keep my fuel in the barn it has the spout open but I used the tractor almost all day before it was stored inside , I put my hand over the intake it still will get air enough to run , like u I took off the fuel line , in hindsight I should have had my friend just stand on the brake while letting out the clutch to stall it but was kinda in a panic with a broke foot i did not think that far ahead , I think it probably is something in the pump I found a good shop from my brother in law I will talk to them next week ,, thanks again
