WayneB: We burned about 16 acres on our farm in Bowling Green KY two weekends ago. Last weekend we helped friends with a burn, generating the photos that I posted. They have about 40 acres of native warm season grasses that they burn about a 1/3 of each year. That tall prarie grass makes a nice fire.

It must be something to see. Up here we do not have that many large fields and I can just see the woods catching fire! We can have outside fires in the wintertime as long as there is snow on the ground and the town permits burning. In my town you have to report that you are burning even if there is snow on the ground. It use to be everyone had burn barrows, but that is outlawed now so there is no paper burning. One good thing is we don't have people burning garbage these days so the smells are gone.

Yes, a gutter will be the crowning glory of finishing the project. Thanks for inquiring.

I hope that the first two rows of shingles that I got up before the weather closed in are still there after the earth-shaking thunderstorms that just, well... thundered through these parts.

Due to major life upheaval, it has taken me until June to be able to surge forward with shed construction. I decided to use Smartpanels for siding and find it easy to work with. Hope it holds up as promised. I am finishing the trim and getting ready to paint the whole thing.

Finishing the "run in" shed just in time to use half of it to store hay. Due to the drought the we and probably you are experiencing, we plan to store as much fodder for the hay burners as possible now, in case there isn't enough to go around later due to lack of rain. So hay on one side, horse shade on the other, where do I get to park my Kubota?

It didn't take long before the CEO decided that we need more room, and I should quickly add on to the shed. First I had to buy a 20' foot ladder. What I learned from building the shed has led to imporvements as I build onward, upward and outward. Will my Kubota MX5000 finally get a roof?

Warning: Building a modest run in shed for the horse has a way of taking on a life of it's own. Look how the "shed" keeps expanding as the CEO decides that storage space for food for the 5 Hay Burners is well worth my time and effort. Look, it is still a construction site and here comes a load of hay.

As I build, I learn from my mistakes and come up with better ways of hanging lumber. So the back of the barn will be straighter and better looking than the front. Live & learn.

The roof isn't on yet and already the horse woman is talking water line trench, electrisity and all those other new-fangled luxuries. Never ends. Good thing building is satisfying work.
