While looking up info on the 4024T engine found in our tractor, I ran across this on JD's web site for the 4024T engine:
LINK Check section 10 -

Kerosene (burner) fuels may be used with the following restrictions.
Type: No.2
Comments: Higher density and specific gravity than base No. 2-D diesel fuel. Power increase up to 2.5% can be expected.
Type: No.1
Notes: Lower viscosity than base No. 2-D diesel fuel. Power loss up to 1.5% can be expected.

So does this mean there's no problem running kerosene? Not that I would...but hmmm. 2.5% increase in power with No. 2?

I doubt you'll find #2 kero around. Most of the stuff you buy at a pump (and it's hard to find) is #1 because it's definitely lighter than #2, which is basically #2 fuel oil.

Think the off-road diesel is #2 fuel oil with some dye added. Doubt it's really any heavier or higher density than regular diesel. Might be.

Many people in the north burn a 50/50 mix of #1 kero with diesel or #2 fuel oil in the winter, to reduce the tendency to gel at low temperatures.

Kero does not have the lubricity additives in the fuel that the injectors depend on. Running kero may score the injectors and cost you money and down time.
Some of the old timers used to mix #2 and kero for temperature reasons, but thanks to the EPA, diesel has changed for the worse and doesn't offer the lubricity it used to. If temperature is an issue, I would add a conditioner instead of cutting it with Kero.

In areas of the country with colder climates, any on-road diesel remaining that is stored underground at the dealer/station is routinely cut with kerosene just prior to winter blend becoming available. Depending on the climate at the time, the amount of kerosene added could make the mixture be as great as 50/50. This is done just before the first delivery of winter blend. When I had my station this was the norm for early November.
