How about filling in the rest of the club.. as to where you found/bought the parts from.. part #'s..
..if you did the work yourself & how difficult it was or wasn't.. if you followed the "sticky" directions..

Wasn't the case in your situation, but another thing to always check is the oil level on the dipstick.

I had a small Lombardini diesel engine that leaked fuel past the pump into the crankcase, and had it 'run away' because the overfilled crank case fed oil/fuel mix past the rings into the cylinder.

i cracked an injector open to see if it was getting fuel like Pump Guy recommended, and there was fuel going to the injector. I have ordered a manual for the Kubota engine but to this day it still hasnt arrived. I called a friend of mine (diesel doc) who works on heavy equiptment to see if he would come and take a look a look at the mower. (He usually doesn’t work on lawn equipment but has fixed my tractor many times)
Doc showed up within 30min of me calling him, and had the pump off and apart in a matter of minutes. He told me that the spring for the second cylinder was broken. He went to our local grasshopper dealer(who is also a Kubota and John dear tractor dealer to buy the parts. They didn’t sell any replacement parts just a whole new pump. Doc then went to Baton Rouge, a 30 min drive and went to a diesel parts place where they measured tested and sold him replacement springs. 1 hrs later my mower is running. I only cut a small section to make sure it was working but plan to cut all 3 acres Monday. Total cost parts and labor was only $320, well worth it to me as I’m sure it would have taken up a whole Saturday taking it apart and I probably would have just bought a new pump as that was all the grasshopper dealer offered. If you live in the Gonzales LA area I would highly recommend doc for any diesel repairs as he is very fair and honest.

Thank you very much for the follow-up..Glad you got it fixed.
The maker of your pump is Zexel, a Japanese company.. the springs break often & is a common occurrence.
You should have noticed the fuel delivery difference, if you had loosened all the lines from the injectors.. One pumping less than the others.
I've gotten them in w/ ALL the springs broken before.. its due to poor engine oil maintenance. The springs are lubricated by splash oil from the motor. Low viscosity oil{old} & heat, break-down the spring strength..
I hope you paid attention to how the pump was removed.?? if he only replaced 1 spring..
I know it seems like a GREAT DEAL because you got your mower running & you didn't have to do the work, but.. 320.00?? to change out a spring.?? & he didn't overhaul the pump w/ new orings & gaskets??
But hey, if your happy.. we're happy for ya.. Happy Mowing..

You've already experienced a run-away.. & got VERY lucky & was able to shut it down..
Do you "really" wanna push your luck??
Shoot me an email... TPG

I experience a runaway on my 2014 MX5200hxt after being stored for 2 years on first start. Luckily the tractor was clear of anything so I was able to drive it out of shop and stall it. What I think is the governor is free. The manual throttle is free. The floor pedal is free. When the runaway is happening the key will not shut it down. So, I assume it is a stuck fuel rod. I am way beyond a normal shade tree mech but injection pumps intemidate me. I tried to find a IPB like I normally would but i counl not find one. Could you please share the link you talked about in an earlier post. Or send it directly to me. Thank you Runaway Diesel.

check the oil level in the engine, if it's above the full mark, a bad seal on the injector pump or fuel pump could be filling the crankcase with Diesel, which could keep the engine running with the key off.. it could be a stuck fuel cutoff solenoid too. that should be a wire running to the injector pump, connected to the solenoid.. sometimes key switches fail in the on position too.. not allowing the power to be turned off..
