Is it safe to run straight #2 in my CK25? I have 150 gallons of the stuff at the moment. Its well aged shall we say :D Does anyone know what I should be looking for as a sign of break down of the oil? Its been stored behind my shed for about 2 years, it was in an under ground tank for a year or more before that. It burns just fine in my Reddy heater. Since I get ULSD from my nearest station I was thinking of mixing #2 and ULSD or simply running straight #2.

Does anyone think there will be a problem with running #2.

I've been running #2 for the past year without any problems. I added a diesel stabilizer additive (got mine from West Marine but there are many brands) and at the recommendation of some folks here on TBN I added about a half ounce per gallon of 2 stroke motor oil (maximizing lubrication properties).

My #2 was fresh but I'd just inspect yours to make sure there is no water in it or other junk. Might be wise to use a filter and decant it into 5 gallon jugs before putting it in the tractor.

I transfer from a 30 gallon barrel to a 5 gallon kero jug now. I was thinking of filtering it before it goes into the tractor.

Diesel Home heating oil and fuel oil are one and the same here and probably hurriedly reaching that point everywhere else.
1 and 2 denotes between fuel for winter use and summer use.
Kerosene which is not diesel can be confused with #1 diesel because it's sometimes called #1

1* Its been stored behind my shed for about 2 years,
it was in an under ground tank for a year or more before that.
2*150 gallon
3*I get ULSD from my nearest station .
4*I was thinking of mixing #2 and ULSD or simply running straight #2.
1*Why was it stored 3 years without being used?
2*How did you come up with this 150 gallon?
3*Why do you go there to get what you already have at home?
4*You could mix 2 gallon of what you have to one gallon of the ULSD but you may not need to.

1) A friend got a new all electric furnace/heatpump so no need for heating oil anymore.
2) I pumped out 150 gallons so far roughly 2 years ago, five 30 gallon barrels.
3) I didn't want to just dump in what could be questionable heating oil. I've only opened 1 barrel in 2 years so that 30 gallons I know still seems good.
4) I think I will add heat oil when I'm down about half for a 50/50 mix.

On a side note 5 gallons has been lasting me 10 hours of operating time. I bought 10 gallons of ULSD and I'm still running on it now. I also need to decide on what micron rating filter setup I want to use. Summit has a 60 micro fuel funnel but that seems a bit big.

4) That's another 75 gallon to add to the 150 gallon for a total of 225 gallons.
How long do you figure that would last you?
I would start with filtering it good and adding 16 ounces of power service per 30 gallon .
Get it filtered and treated and you may not need to mix it with other fuel which weould make it quicker and easiet to get it used up.

Got this from northern Tool.TCS was out at the time or I'd have gotten it there.

I would not run that in any of my machines!!
The amount of algae in it will cause nothing but headaches.
Do what you want but I hate to see you find out the hard way.

Just to set the record straight there is a big difference between #1 and #2 oil not just color and taxes.
#2 oil has no where near the lubricants that is needed to run a engine without putting a additive in it.

I run red dye (off road)diesel fuel in all of my equipment but I would NEVER run fuel that is 2yrs old,you are asking for trouble IMHO.coobie

I would suggest you send a sample of the fuel out to have a analysis done on it before using it. It's better to spend a few dollars to have it tested and find there is nothing wrong with it than to use it and end up with problems.
