Running out of Orange Juice!

So I have noticed lately that my wife and I have been running out of orange juice before shopping day. We always buy 2 half gallons. I just figured with summer, maybe we were drinking more. Then I happened to look at the container, it now holds 59 ounces. Hmm. Last I checked a half gallon was 64 ounces! That explains why we are running short.

That kind of thing annoys me. Increase the price if needed, don't decrease the quantity! So no more Minute Maid for us!

I'm right there with you. True Story.
About 13 years ago, I would always buy Breyer's yogurt. 8oz. cups. One day I noticed that they decreased the size to 6 oz. So I stopped buying it. Sent an email to the corporate headquarters, and there response was that their consumer research suggested that the consumer wanted a smaller portion size. I called bull and stopped buying all breyers products. I find that I have to look hard anymore at the sizes and price to make sure that I'm getting the best price per quantity anymore.

I think that most corporations believe that the consumer will never notice the few ounce change in quantity and keep the price the same.

Anyone take a look at cereal boxes lately. The "full" size ones are now about the size of the "mini's" we took camping as kids in the 70's, that you could open up and pour the milk directly in. :laughing:

All these manufacturers are doing the same thing to disguise price hikes with smaller amounts of product for the same "old" price. (or even higher price)

Hillshire sausage ... 14 ounces down from 16 ounces... Where's the Beef ?

When I take the kids grocery shopping they fall for the "This box is bigger so it must be cheaper" trick. I tell them to look at the price tag and/or the size/weight or the product to figure out which product has the best price. Quite a few products are cheaper in the smaller packages/amounts.

I will have to check to see if our OJ cartons have gotten smaller.

The bagels I used to buy were six to a bag. Then they went to five and now there are only four in a bag. No inflation my fanny.

We put almost all purchases on credit cards to get money back and track spending. Pay off the bills every month of course. The amount of money we spend on food is astounding. We don't eat much meat, and what we do eat, we buy on sale. We buy some snack food as a treat and that stuff is expensive but we don't buy much. We pretty much are just buying stables like milk, OJ, cheese, pasta, veggies, etc. Maybe some cereal for the kids. We are spending a small fortune on food. Far more than we used to spend.

The latest one that almost got me was sugar. I was in Wal-mart and picked up what I thought was a 5lb bag of wal-mart brand sugar because it was cheaper than the 5lb domino brand. Turns out the it was only 4lbs. and was more expensive than the name brand when priced per pound.

I have noticed some time ago one of our local grocery chains has the "$$/oz" clearly marked below the price on the shelves. Do others not do this?

Ours do/does...now if I could just get the wife to pay attention to it. :laughing: (and heck no, I'm not getting the groceries myself wisenheimers )
