Running out of Orange Juice!

There are no orange groves left in Orange County either, except for one parcel managed by the county as a park. My mother had cousins who farmed 160 acres of citrus right across the road from Knott's berry farm, which actually grew berries in those days. Then Walt Disney decided to build an amusement park down the road...

My wife commented that her brand of apple juice was now smaller, tho the price was unchanged. I read the label. It stated that the company "is improving packaging to reduce our impact on the environment." The "new bottle is made using almost almost 14% less plastic." There is an upside to everything.

I have noticed some time ago one of our local grocery chains has the "$$/oz" clearly marked below the price on the shelves. Do others not do this?

I do look at the price per ounce sticker. One day I decided to calculate it myself and on a few of the items I came up with different answers than what was printed. Mine of course was the correct answer!

As someone else mentioned, at least inflation is very low!

All of this being said and as much as I gripe about things, there is no other country I would rather live in!

Bingo. I do look at prices (sort of), but since there's just me and I can afford it I purchase by taste not price. About the only thing I watch for is when soda/pop is on sale.

The kids growing up is certainly adding to the grocery bill. :laughing::laughing::laughing: I feel my parents pain because one of the kids is drinking a gallon of milk in a day or two. I used to do that as well. :laughing::laughing::laughing:

The cost of the beer I used to buy went from $11-12 a 12 pack to $16-17 a 12 pack. Can't blame the kids for that increase. We don't buy that beer anymore, and I make my own now, but we do buy a case of cheap lager every once an awhile.

I don't track the grocery bills like Bird does but I have checked them every once in awhile and my guestimate is that our bills have gone up in price similar to Bird's.

Certainly using corn for fuel has increased the cost of food. In 2012, the estimate was that 45% of corn was going to fuel production to into food.

So I have noticed lately that my wife and I have been running out of orange juice before shopping day. We always buy 2 half gallons. I just figured with summer, maybe we were drinking more. Then I happened to look at the container, it now holds 59 ounces. Hmm. Last I checked a half gallon was 64 ounces! That explains why we are running short.

That kind of thing annoys me. Increase the price if needed, don't decrease the quantity! So no more Minute Maid for us!

I checked the OJ box last night and it was 59 ounces too and it was not the Minute Maid brand either. I think it is Florida's Natural or some such.

One of the kids brought home a new Strawberry and Banana juice. I checked the label and it was mostly.....

Sweet potato juice! :shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing: I made the mistake of telling the wife and the kid said I ain't drinking that stuff even though the kid loves the juice! Sweet potatoes are really good for you and I would hope the juice is as well but there ain't much strawberry and banana in that juice bottle.
