I installed my own generator, but had the propane company come out and put a new manifold on the genset, the cost was really cheap.

Back in '95 when I retired we installed a 8kw for stand by power. We had the propane co come and hook it up to tank about 115' from house. They put regulator at the genset. The reason was they wanted to be able to regulate the pressure at the genset not way back at the tank. Made sense to me and they also buried copper tubing for the line.
