Running with the brake on?

I don't about friction and metal plates on each side of a B2601.
I've had a flat on the front. I pulled the front wheel and didn't notice any brakes.
I also pulled one rear wheel off that blew the air valve and didn't notice a bake.

There are NO front brakes.

Rear brakes are not behind the wheel like a car/truck. They are located in the transmission case.

If you're interested, you can see where they are located by navigating the illustrated parts on Kubota's webstire. Here's the link to get you started. https://apps.kubotausa.com/illustrated-parts/

My tractor will not move with the brakes locked.

Fortunately my Kioti came with a parking brake engaged light on the dash.

I did it a couple times on the M6040. Then I found a better way. Angle the grapple down and pin it on the ground. Drop the rear blade to the ground. There is no way you will move the tractor without lifting both.

My L3700 hydro screams like a wounded mongoose if I try to move with the parking brake set. There must be differences in Parking Brake effectiveness?

What there really is are differences in how much foot pressure is applied to the pedals when the brake is set. If the brake is not firmly set it is easy for an untrained or careless operator to overpower the brake with the engine.

Oosik, does your 6040 have a "brake on" indictor light? Mine does not

Keep in mind that "mongoose screaming" will also vary by which "range" gear you are in. With the highest screaming in HI and the lowest amount of screaming and brake effectiveness in the LO range.

I did get a kick out of your description :)

While having a brake warning light is helpful, extending the parking brake handle has made it delightful. While similar in design, the locking handle direction is opposite of the M59. Really screws with muscle memory. Also the ergonomics of the B26 is off. Maybe because I’m older, bigger and not as flexible the parking brake was hard to set. Bending over while pushing the brake pedals then pushing down the catch lever to find a notch is poorly designed. Frequently getting on and off the tractor was a pain. Extending the handle up to the dash has been a blessing. Longer lever arm gives better body position and allows fingertip control to feel the locking ratchet. Operator sets the brake more firmly thus less likely operating with the brake on. Also gives another quick visual indication of brake status at the dash level. If I had to choose between either the warning light or the handle modification, I would choose the latter every time. Both improve the operation and safety.
