I realize this a county rd not a road in a subdivision. But in a few places here I've seen those humps in the road so you can't be going over 30mph in areas with High traffic and for what ever reason, low enforcment.... Maybe you could get the county to do that... In most of those areas unfortunatley, it took some one getting hurt or killed to get the county to pay for it... Maybe if you and your closest neighbors go to them in a group they listen before that happens...

Good luck... and be safe.....

Buckcreek nailed it pretty well for why, plus there is still a lot of the good ole boy system working. From my dealing with the local law, limited encounters with the county department, I would call the State Police if I need help.

Most of the traffic passing through is from a troubled area of county, you know where the family trees resemble telephone poles and the main source of income is wacky weed. The people in that area are not known for their hospitality or good intentions. I know there are some good people down there, but they are out numbered. I am originally from the neighboring county and I know if I go down in that area I am armed, especially if it will be after dark.

I like the idea of the camcorder, but I don't know if it would work out well with my schedule and getting stuff done. I don't want to put out any signs because that is just inviting trouble to the house. If I did, it wouldn't shock me if my house didn't get shot at or my tires slashed.

Based on the first 1/2 of your post, I don't know if I would run the camcorder where the speeders can see you. I would still consider taping but in such a fashion whereby they can't see and subsequently "target" you. I would take the tape to someone in your local government that would take action. It sounds like you have the Sheriff department as the local law enforcement. If so, have you spoken with him directly or to a deputy? If no resolution with the law enforcement section, go up the political chain (with video tape and notes of conversations with the law enforcement officials in hand).

In a town with a name like Pleasureville? I can't imagine that! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have the same problem. Even though the road is paved and the speed limit is 50mph, there are numerous farms on this road and there have been times where horses or cows have been loose in the road. My problem is a college that is less than 3 miles from me. You get a lot of kids from out of town on their superbikes running them hard. My house is on a fairly long straight a way but is about a 1/4 mile from the end of the road at a stop sign. I've seen kids going by with the bike standing on the rear wheel going well over 70 mph. When they keep both wheels on the ground I would say they have been passed my house at over 120 mph. Cars are just as bad racing and passing. I figure it doesn't do much good to try to get them to slow down and they will probably get what is coming to them sooner or later. I heard one of the bikes trying to get stopped at the stop sign, down shifting and locked up the rear. I can't be sure but it sounded as if he made a trip to the ditch along the edge of the road.
One thing I do when mowing along the edge of the road if I see someone speeding is blow whatever I can out in the road whether it be sticks, rocks, grass, etc.
Good luck and be careful. Someone has all ready hit my wife when they tried to pass her on the left while she was making a left turn into our driveway.

Be sure to stand in the neighbor's yard while taping... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif J/K

Pleasureville got the name early on. The town has a railroad that runs through it and was the major mode of transportation at that time. The Union and Confederate troops both used this area for staging and deployment depending on strength and movement in the area. The town just happen to have a fully staffed brothel right smack in the middle, next to the tracks, hence the name.

Get yourself some 4x8 sheets of plywood, and paint them up to look like the silhouette of a cruiser, then move them up and down the road from neighbour to neighbour. The locals will know it'sfake, but the out of towners won't realize it until they go past, and by that time they've slowed down. Plus - it only takes one time where there was real cruiser there to make them want to check it out carefully each time. Paint a likeness of your local cop in the window, holding onto his favourite radar gun.

(Caution - depending on your neighbourhood - this might end up being a very big target that you don't want on your front lawn) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
