rural road speeders

There's some kid a motorcycle that goes by our house at least 90 mph every time, has loud exhaust, no hlemet, no shirt most days now and i sjust dangerous as all get out. One of these days he's gonna smack the back of a bale fork or bucket on a tractor and that'l be the end of him. Dad is calling a deputy tomorrow to see if he'll sit in the yard and get him. I just hope if he does wipe out that it is not in front of my house.

I have found that threatening to go to the media will make the local police get on the ball. I had the exact same issue, and I told the local police that if they couldn't do anything, I understand, but I am going to see if the local channel wanted to do a story on their deputy chasing the girls and not doing his job. I then asked them " I wonder what it's like, having to look over your shoulder all the time to see if some nosey reporter is looking down my back? I sure would hate that, having to look every time I went to lunch, talked to a pretty girl, you know?" I also mentioned that if any child got hit, I was going to give the story to the meanest, most bitter journalist I could find.
The next day they wrote over 53 tickets on my road.

Use your camcorder! Paint a 12" x 12" white square on the edge of the road. 10' to 15' away from the other square, paint another square, 12" x 12". Have a watch or stop watch handy. Have wife or neighbor drive by at 55,60, 65, 70,75. Have watch in view finder so it is readable, record the time it takes to travel from one square to the other. Just tape the tires and white squares. Use same tape, just for this purpose. Do this different times during different days. NOT giving a pattern of you being there, taping. Give copies to the local police. If they do nothing, inform them it will go up the ladder to Sheriff dept. If they do the same thing, which is nothing, go to State police. Then, if they do nothing, inform them, that it is being sent the the local t.v. station. It would be veeeeerrrrrrrryy interesting, (quote from Artie Johnson on laugh in), to see their reaction to this information.

I live on a rural road which T's into a state road. From the state road in for the first 1/2 mile the limit is 40 MPH (both ways) then opens up to 55 MPH. I live in the 40 MPH section. Mostly its the neighbors that live in the 55 MPH area down the road going to work or the store. When they are coming toward the state road they're doing 55 and don't slow down in the 40 MPH section till they're almost at the state road. Over the years I've placed numerous calls to both the State PD and Sheriff about the speeders to no avail. It seems that unless there is an accident or emergency on our road we never see any law enforcement. I've even offered to let them shoot radar from my driveway but they won't come out. I take my life in my hands every day just going to get the mail or mowing by the road.

Another problem we have is the neighbors down the road apparently like to empty their cars of garbage, beer cans etc. as they go by the homes in the 40 MPH area as I have to pick it up so I can mow close to the road. One made a stupid mistake once leaving an old bank statement in a mickey D bag they through out in front of my house. I did an online property search and found where they lived then promptly delivered their bag of trash to them.

I actually can't believe that there is an 80 KPH speed limit on our (gravel) back roads!

I have a blind entrance just over a hill, so when someone doesn't see any vehicle coming down the road up ahead, they never figure on traffic coming out of a driveway. I once came out of my driveway on a bad winter day, and found I had a School Bus coming at me sideways, over the hill! I will never forget the utter look of terror on her face! A hidden Entrance sign doesn nothing. I got my sign as requested, but the road super insisted it would only make people go faster!

I knew a guy who would just put pineapple sized rocks on the road as appear quite normally from grading or whatever. He could (with great satisfaction) hear these rocks hitting the underside of vehicles from an amazing distance away!
