Rural Satellite TV not available everywhere?

Maybe I missed something in all the posts on this subject. From looking at these posts it seems to me you are saying this person is your tenant, you live 800 miles away.

Tell him getting Satellite / TV / whatever is his problem - not yours and get on with your life. and in addition, tell him he is not allowed to cut down any of your trees to facilitate reception.

In a nutshell...

The person is a tenant and the property manager contacted me...

Tenant claims and was verified that he was told Satellite TV available but not included in rent... based on the fact the previous tenants had Satellite.

Satellite providers declined to provide service after numerous attempts... tenant is claiming home was misrepresented...

Property Manager states unable to rent home without access to TV and Internet... solution needs to be found...

Three options on the table:

Remove one extremely large heritage fir tree and top several others.

or

Contract with Comcast to trench and lay 600 feet of cable at $18 per foot.

or

Cancel Rental agreement and hope to find someone willing to rent home without TV access.

It gets dark early during the long Pacific Northwest Winters and living in a home without TV is not an option I've been told...

Tenant is open to any combination... as long as it happens soon.

Call a local electrician and check his price for the trench and conduit
and ask comcast for the wire specs and cost for the wire only
have the electrician check on the wire too.
Have him pull it in and and call them to connect it.

and change property manager.

Had a local contractor bid for the job, came in about a third of comcast. The problem is Comcast said it will not install in conduit provider by others because comcast is responsible for signal to the home...

Follow-up... success... it's been a couple of months since Sat was installed... so far, the system has worked well.

Unbelievable the amount of time and effort involved...

Finally got a guy that new what needed to be done and wanted to make it happen.

Local and trusted tree guy came out to check trees that were marked for topping or removal and did the job. The largest tree actually had a fair amount of rot going on inside...

In retrospect... it seems most of the problem/frustration was the result of people not knowing their job or unwilling to make it happen...

Yup. Incompetent installers are the problem. I take interest in most everything and learn how to DIY just about everything. Setting up a sat dish is actually quite easy... but these installers don't get paid much so they basically won't do any install that is a "no brainer".

Glad to see you are all hooked up. :)
