The house area needs a little cleaning up, close to the house are bushes that are going by by, the lawn isn't mowed as well as I like it, there is a pool in the fenced back yard, I'm betting there are frogs in there, probably not good either. there is also a little pond a couple feet deep, 40ft around that is going by by as well. I think if I do some cleaning up I can limit the snake problem there. I hope so anyway, I don't like killing things unless I need to.

My sisters two dogs mess with snakes a lot, they grabbed a 5ft eastern diamond back and almost lost there lives, she rushed them to the vet and thousands of dollars later they are still messing with snakes. My Shepherd is very smart but has never seen a snake here, I bet I could train him if I catch a non venomous snake.

In that case,I'm preaching to the converted. Your questions didn't project as one that familiar.

I find snakes interesting and that's why I am familiar with most snakes on the planet including other country's, Australia, Costa Rica etc. What I was asking for is some pointers on keeping them away from the grounds around my house.

The cow pasture is pretty close and is full of snakes, all this stuff in front of the house and in back needs to go, the house is pretty much sitting in a horse field that someone landscaped with some bushes and native greenery. I think it all needs to go. My sisters horses graze in the 26 acre fields that surround the house.

What are the snakes eating out in the cow pasture? Mice?

Well besides paving the yard maybe you could fence it in and raise alligators, I read that they eat snakes.

They sell snake repellant at the farm stores (tsc, ect....). Mow the yard to scare off the critters, then sprinkle the snake away around the perimeter of the yard and in around flower beds.

A cheap alternative is crushing moth balls and sprinkle around the perimeter and flower beds. But then you have the dreaded smell plus the other concerns with moth balls.

Yard mowed short helps deter them from hanging out too much during the day. But once it cools off, they tend to travel.

Hogs will kill and eat snakes. They will also root up, eat and eventually kill such things as Johnson Grass.

OMG! Yeah, if you want to get rid of the snakes, I would imagine you have a lot of landscaping to do.
