Hi Looked at a used cylinder today that would be great for a log splitter. Only problem is there's rust on the ram. Its not deep but its enough to have caused the chrome to flake off. Is this repairable/useable without taking it for re-surfacing( I priced it out and they wanted as much as the cost of a new cylinder ) or should I keep looking. Thanks. Gerry

Okay There is a Hydroline cyl 22" stroke, 4" bore with a 1.75" ram for sale on ebay. Would this make a good logsplitter cyl? I know the bore and length are adequate, just not sure if the ram/shaft is big enough.

The most common repair I see on log splitters is bent rods. Most 4" bore cylinders have a 2" rod. I believe this rod is too small and will bend. For the price of a new cylinder, I don't buy used.

Thanks I have seen logsplitter cyls for sale with 1.5" rods but the heavier duty ones mostly have 2" rods. Must be a reason for that.
