Hello all! I've been reading this forum for a little while now and have learned a great deal from the posts. I'm new to the tractor market and I'm looking to purchase a sub compact tractor.

I've been looking at the BX 2230, JD 2210 and the NH TZ24. When I went to look at the Kubotas at my local dealer, I noticed rust in several places on the three point hitch. I also noticed rust in the corners of that metal screen below the steering column. Is that normal to see rust on a new tractor?

I'd like to get your opinions before I talk to a sales guy about it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had a couple small areas that contained some surface rust on my BX23. Nothing serious though. My 3 point was still boxed up and wrapped in sealed plastic when I took the tractor. It had a small amount of rust on the connections, though nothing that I worried about.

Are you not finding this on the other manufactured tractors?

This is a very common occurrence with all brands. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Generally speaking, your better quality dealers will clean this kind of thing up before they deliver a tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you are worried about a little rust when new, what are you going to do when it receives some battle scars. I can tell you that the boom on my hoe has more scratches from rock digging than I like, but it is a tractor, not a car. If you expect to have a tractor and keep it looking like your car, then you will not be using it to its full potential. I use my machine, but I never abuse my machine. Even then, there is the occasional "slip" that scratches the boom, bucket, or cylinder. So far, I have limited my scratches to the externals and the hood and fenders look just like new. Please pass the touch up paint.....

remember , this is a tractor. and tho i would not expect to see it loaded with rust, all it takes is a few scratches, when assemlbing and then sitting outside and you will see some surface rust.

Golfgar, I agree with you to a point, but I also think that there are differences in paint quality. The paint on my FEL and BH is not as good as the paint on the tractor. It doesn't matter much, but nonetheless......

When testing some of the big brands (JD, Kubota, NH, Kioti, Agco) I noticed some rust on all, but the Kioti and Agco had the most rust on bodywork. Both of those machines had poor fit at the hood/dashboard juncture and the paint had been chipped there, and the kioti had a rust blister where the choke rod passed through the dash, but all machines had a little around some of the 3pt parts. My kubota arrived with no body rust, only some where parts of the chassis got scratched during dealer assembly.
IMHO, a tractor is first and foremost a tool , and not a Ferrari to be petted and polished. I'd rather spend my time and money on timely and proper maintenance so it can work well for a long time and I believe that all of the brands are designed to do just that! Don't worry about a little rust -- there will be more later if you put it to WORK ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got a BX23 and have very little rust and only in a couple spots but none on body, FEL or BH. Overall paint quality on the Kubota seems to match or better any of the other brands. I'd suggest cleaning rusty areas with a wire brush and then spray with a clear rust preventitive. If you get any scratches, touch them up asap or spray with clear rust preventitive.

I am leaving mine outside in the rain so it will get a little rust on it. I don't want a tractor that looks like it is babied and not used for what it is intended for. Just like having a shovel that still has the paper sticker on it. Everyone knows that you don't ever use it.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
