Rust Prevention

Not sure if this is the correct forum.

I have all new equipment and live on the coast. Is there fluid film or oil I can spray all of the equipment to prevent rust? I noticed they undercoated my cab and tractor a bit.

not sure if this might be an option for you, I know it's made for cars but should work in theory for what you need

When we first moved to Nova Scotia I water washed the under body of the truck and then applied three or four coats of paint. Then I used an eductor sand blaster minus the sand to spry on a 50/50 mixture of roofing asphalt and diesel. on the under body.This seemed to work okay.

The last few years I've been going to the town Goodyear Tire Dealer and getting it sprayed with Crown coating. This seems to work well as the fellows pull all the rubber body plugs and spray well inside as do a complete spray of the engine compatment. Money well spent I figure.

The outside of the truck does not look good due to some body damage and Dodges terrific paint job but underneath where it counts all is well.

Definitely recommend the Crown undercoating. My 95.5 Tacoma has been crown coated since new and it still is in excellent condition. Remember that there is a recall on Tacoma's of that era due to corrosion issues, and mine has passed Toyota inspection, due in my eyes to the crown undercoating!

Another option would be going to your local independent autoparts store and look for wax based undercoating such as Welcome to Pro Form Products it will only cost around $100 for 5 gal (Way cheaper than getting it done at a shop, and you can put on as much as you want), but it lasts very well ,(almost permanent) and is much better than the oil types, and cleaner than asphalt if you do any work on your car.

Fluid film is also a good product, i used to apply it by the gallon to plow tractors when i worked at a dealer, however it is very expensive in the gal can (around $60-$80 if i remember) and around $9-10 for a spray can. You usually have to reapply yearly as well.

I agree. Krown is the only way to go.

So what is Krown, I'm on dial up and it wants to do a big movie thing for me.

I've been recommending Fluid Film, I got 5 gal for $125 or so on ebay. But I must admit it wears off very fast underneath a car. A piece of metal out in the field it does well on, and also leather, but not so good under a car.

So what is Krown

Basically its a semi-waxy type, annual rustproofing applied to the whole vehicle, frame and body.

Heres a quote from the site : "Krown is the highest performing petroleum based rust preventative on the market today. They're out of Ontario. Doesnt look like they have any US dealers, but here's their # 1-905-738-6191.

I will be using Krown on my truck. I will look at other options for my tractor and implements.

Scooby, My buddy took advantage of the Toyota recall. He had a 1998 - very bad shape. They gave him just shy of $13k. He bought a new 2008 tacoma.

Lots of my friends won the rust lottery too. Dealer says there is a 2 mth wait for new Toyota trucks here, so i guess Toyota made the right decision.Thats what I get for taking care of my rigs lol. Anyways, Krown is a good product. Have a look at my previous post for another product that you could use on your tractor and other things, ive had good luck with it too.
