Rusted Gas Tank Repair and Motor Mounts

Just as a conclusion to my end of the story....

Built a top lid, tap and die some 1/4" 28's to hold the lid down. POR-15 the inside, and some of the outside, then spray painted the entire thing (except the interior). Found out you need to use Cork as a gasket material and not RTV. Slapped it all together and it runs. At least so far.

cork is much better than silicon for gas tanks. I found that silicon will break down and find its way into my fuel filters. I have had to change filters several times a day until we removed the tank top and took a dry vac and sucked the inside of the tank clean. Went thru a full box of filters in two days once. Had a piece of equipment quit running while trying to clear for a train and had to drag it about 4 miles to find a siding to get in the clear in. Dispatchers, Superintendents burning up my phone. I finally told them I could either work to fix the equipment or I could talk on the phone and for them to decide which one would get me in the clear the quickest. They left me alone until I got in the clear and then I got to spend some quality time on the phone explaining what the problem was. Next day I had a fleet of mechanic trucks converging on my location to make sure i didnt have the same problem again. All over a tube of silicon a mechanic had used instead of using the proper gasket material..
