Fill the ruts with pea gravel. You'll help your horses feet at the same time!

I don't know what size of pasture he has but that option could get very expensive...but then again if you have an oak lined, paved drive then maybe thats not a concern. ;)

Like most things..... How much do you want to spend. We are using a product called HoofGrid, in front of a loafing shed for horses. It's not cheep but I've seen it used in gravel parking lots and it seems to work pretty well. But it's not cheap. If it works well in front of the shed, we are going to use it in the paddocks, and gates.

OK, I don't claim to be a horse person, but how does this help their feet? Just from keeping their feet out of mud and water puddles? Wouldn't gravel risk getting stuck in their feet?

The gravel gets up in all of the cracks and crevices and stimulates the foot. There is lots of info on the web about it, usually pertaining to natural hoof care. The gravel is small and round so it doesn't get lodged in the horses feet.

it also helps to naturally "round" off the front of the hoof while they walk on it as well as building up their sole.

Ponytug,

Like your answer!! 2 or 4 legged animals seem to get in the greatest mischief when they are bored or figure out there own games to play.

Not meant to be a cut to anyone so no offense intended, but have seen too many living creatures used as lawn ornaments. The humane societies up here are flooded with all kinds of farm animals that people got and when $ got tight either gave them up or just left and the animals fended for themselves or cut the fences and let them go.
