Pix # 4 THE Truck pulls 2000 lb trailer and L4610 cab Kubota with HD brush hog and FEL like the trailer wasn't there (almost). With aux OD and oversized tires I can't run legally in top gear unless in 70 mph or higher zone cause I won't cruise it under 1700 rpm.

Ya know Robert, if you really like your camper and in consideration of the cost of a good new one (over $30K) and having a new truck to carry it, you could budget a fair custom mod.

Forgot to tie into the punch line re ..."Dodge man, mostly."

Look carefully at the tail lights on my Dodge truck. Yup! Ford!

I've been told that I had been a Ford man for so long (previous 7 PU trucks) that I was having to be weaned off slowly and that is why I had Ford tail lights on my Dodge truck.

That's a sweet setup. You did a very clean pro job on the modifications.

I am going to pull the camper off the Ford today. I need to use both trucks later this week, in addition to getting the Ford ready to go in the Ad paper.

I'll be doing some mesuring, and see exactly how much it does not fit by. When it wouldn't fit the Dodge, I immediately slipped it on the Ford, since we were leaving the next morning... so I didn't get a closer look or measurements.

SHF ... actually ... I figure that oil is oil and if the engien really wants it ... I can just pour it anywhere and it will suck it in!
This 2.2L Renault engine sounds about the same as the 1.7 you were referring to ... timing belt goes and you just have it towed to the Garnd Canyon and push it over. I HATE to pull off covers to peek at things ... cause you usually end up causing grief ... but that's one of the things on my agenda. The manual says change out the timing belt at 60k ... and it's at 79k. Did the former owner do it? Hmm.... the maintenance seems to have been performed religiously ... but the maintance of the notebook only lasted the first 2 years ...
The engine looks well maintained ... oil and filters were clean when I got it ... no metal in the filter ... but outside of pulling off the timing cover ... there's no way to see whether it was changed. And will I be able to tell??
Unfortunately, the closest RV place with LeSharo experience is Louisville Ky ... and it's about $800 to replace the timing belt. I'm not a gambler, at all ... but I also don't like to waste money .... can you say "quandry"?

Know what you mean, Bird ... that's what my sis-in-law was doing in Buffalo too ... out in the garden in the early morning ... rest of the day was inside where it was cool.
Think I'll just stay in the more moderate north ... although the wife is on my case to get the LeSahro back into working condition so we can start touring Kentucky (just becausze she's a horse not ...)

Wingnut,

Can't remember how many miles were on the 1.7 when the belt went. Seems to me it was in the 80-90k range. Pulling covers is always a rotten job, but $800.00 sounds like an awful lot. Is it because of the location of the belt and housing? Maybe have to pull the whole motor?

... and I'm at the 90k end of that range ....
re the $800 ... nope ... that's one of the few parts of the engine that seems to be quite easy to get to .... If I'd ever tinkered with a timing belt .. I'd certainly be inclined to try ... but I have this nagging worry that if I screw it up (NOT beyond the realm of possibility) it a 600 mile + tow down to Louisville!
Why $800? So far I've found 3 shops that seem to be knowledgeable about this engine ... Louisville, KY; Austin, TX; and Forestville, IA .... so it looks like a case of "because they can charge that much"
Guess it's time to call Forestville and find out what they want for a timing belt ...

too bad that common sense ain't
