Eric I'm going to give you a hard time and say don't blow the dust and crap further into the radiator. You blow from the fan side first and then from the front. I realize you were just giving a demo.

I've also had really good results with a varsol gun. It's a device used to suck varsol out of a container and blow it against grease and dirt etc. It works with a venturi effect off of your air compressor. Only I don't use varsol on a radiator. I use water. The weight of the water combined with the push of the air does a nice job on removing the packed in dirt etc. Only let the radiator dry out before you use the tractor in real dusty conditions. If the fins are still wet the dirt will just pack right in again.

If I blow from the backside of the radiator first, then I'm also blowing junk in my oil cooler and condenser since the oil cooler, condenser, and radiator are all stacked. If stuff doesn't blow through then the water hose radiator genie which is sold in the same package is then used. Anyway, the Radiator Genie is available everywhere but if you cannot get it locally, The Radiator Genie is available right on Amazon.

Much appreciated. I will be picking one of those up A lot more reach than my little air blowout kit from Lowes.

It is a bit of a pain in the neck, but it is worth while once in a while to unbolt all the coolers in front of the radiator and thoroughly clean all the finned surfaces.
You can get condensor cleaner which is safe for aluminum coils and clean each cooler individually.
It will surprise you at how much more crap will come out of the finns using a cleaner solution.

I see your point. My tractor only has a very coarse finned oil cooler in front of the radiator so I try to blow mostly from the fan side first

This is the blow gun I use...made by Milton.

I always blow from the back side too. People should get a light on the back side and look through the fins to verify air can get through. The OP lost his fluid because he boiled it all out the overflow. If there is no engine damage, he got lucky.

Also make sure you get your antifreeze mix right. I understand that antifreeze takes on heat faster than plain water, but at the same time it will release the heat quicker. I was told a lot of fighter aeroplanes in WW2 only had small radiators, so to compensate, they would run them on pure antifreeze. A little problem though, some antifreeze is very flammable.

I think anything you use to frequently blow out the fins will be better than doing nothing....even your Lowes brand air wand. I typically blow mine out using a wand I bought at Northern Tool that is long enough and skinny enough to get between the radiators/coolers. If I hadn't already bought the wand at NT, the Radiator Genie might be in my garage right now instead.

If you're going to be afield of your shop doing some shredding or other cooler blocking activity, you could get one of those 10 gallon air tanks and a short piece of air hose and your wand to carry with you, and hop off intermittently to blow your coolers out. Obviously, you'd fill up the tank before you left. ;)

I am happy to report that the tractor is running fine now. I am ordering a longer wand today, to help keep it cleaned out. I threw together a quick video about the problem I ran into.
I cant thank you guys enough. There is aways so much good info on TBN. Probably better than any other website.
