Satoh Bison
I bought a 1974 Sato bison tractor that came with a bervac S60 snowblower. I am new to owning PTO driven equipment and had a question as to what speed to run the snow blower at. It offers a 540 or 1100 RPM. Also it is front mounted with a bervac made drive unit that goes underneath of the tractor to the front. Looking for some advice. Thank you

The S60 only runs at 540rpm's max. Now the real question is, is this a YS-60 instead?

I turn up no S60 in all of my 33 models Ber-Vac has made. The YS-60 was made for Yanmar by Ber-Vac in the 1980s.

In 1994, Ber-Vac was acquired by RADTech.

Now, there were made at one time S73 and S85.

If you do have an S60, it's not been documented and the information may of been destroyed in 2016 when the entire company building burned to the ground.

And here is the only known surviving YS48/YS60 document I'm aware of, is this like yours then?

That is similar to mine. But mine definitely has a S60 sticker on the top. Was probably bought originally with the tractor in 1974. So I guess I should assume it runs at 540?

Yes, 540rpm max. In all honestly I run my stuff 480 to 500. Less wear and longer life on things, even the engine on the tractor. In some rare instance you may need the max, but mostly not.

IF the fire didn't happen, more things would be available.

Good to know about the S60 being an actual product. The only question then would be, was there ever an S48? This would complete the family. I could only assume.

Down the road in time, if you ever do find documentation, please come back to your thread and tell us.
I've scanned a few of the rare manuals out of print for over 4 decades. Its saved many people from scrapping good equipment needed some care.
