Well, I think I have a better solution. I took a look under the hood and I have easy access to the wiring for the existing (too low) headlights. I was able to determine which wire is for the high beams, the low beams and the ground. It seems to me that I can tap into the ground wire and put in a quick disconnect on the high beam wire to connect my brush guard mounted, single 55 watt light to the high beam circuit in place of the high beam light on one side. That will give me fairly short wire runs, easy removal and reconnection of the regular high beam, and no need to add any switches, relays or fuses, right? Let me know if I'm barking up the wrong snow bank (can't get to the trees, we have 5 feet of snow here!). Thanks!

If I read your post correctly, you will be adding the current from the new light to the existing lights. this is series wiring. you will still have to consider the current draw. How about this... break the positive wire from your switch to the lights, put in a SPDT (single pole, double throw switch) This will effectively give you the option of toggling between headlights, and top lights without the issue of current draw. (no fuses either...)

sorry, drawing won't show correctly.

I like that.
High beams (high like on high on top)

Sure, that'll work but you can ground to the frame, no need to run extra wire.

If you do ground to frame sand clean and ground using a star type lock washer to maximise contact and coat with dialiectric grease or vasoline.

Short answer: No. My plan is to substitute the current draw of the utility light up on the brush guard for the draw of one of the high beams in a manner that allows me to remove the utility light and reconnect the high beam. I'm thinking that way I don't have to try to locate a new switch or punch holes in my less than 100 hour instrument panel.

If your talking about a connection that you manually pull apart to switch lights, That should work as long as the main lights are disabled. I only have 25 hrs on the new mahindra, and unbolted the dashboard to install a switch. not a big deal.
