Jinma JM284LE
Seriously, the clutch on our Jinma JM284LE is so stiff we have to use 2 hands pulling up on the steering wheel just to disengage it. Really What gives? How can we FIX this? About to sell it, only 16 hours on this and I cannot stand it anymore, 69 C10 pickup has an easier clutch than this.

Have you referred to the Operations/Maintenance manual that came with the tractor? If no, I highly recommend the section on dual stage clutch adjustments. Careful pulling up on the steering wheel by the way. The connection down at the steering controller isn't designed to handle that kind of force. If you pull that loose, you're in for a lot more work than a simple clutch adjust.

Or better still, time to trade in for a John Deere!

16 hours on a tractor ain't nothing, the clutch shouldn't be this tight, no way no how. Cheap slave labor built the tractor and my bet with the way the economy and politics with china are heading, we won't be able to service this thing for much longer.

16 hours is a lifetime if the tractor wasn't assembled competently in the first place. Perhaps you don't realize that tractors aren't fully assembled when they arrive in this country. It's the responsibility of the selling dealer to properly assemble/adjust/service the unit before offering it for sale. That includes adjusting the clutch. Owners have to trust the seller to have done all the right things (or take the initiative themselves), so problems like you describe don't happen before it's time for to perform the 50 hours break-in maintenance items (which includes another potential clutch adjust).

Granted, minimum wage in China is 62 cents an hour. On the other hand, consider the kind of reliability contributed when hiring minimum wage dropouts to put Chinese tractors together on this side of the ocean.

Is it safe to assume that you've not yet consulted the tractor manual about owner/operator clutch adjustments ?

That's right, JD's never break - and neither do Cats. That's why neither have service shops, dealer networks, and don't sell parts.
:D
Most of the time issues can be narrowed down to proper preparation of the tractor prior to going into service, and responsible ownership.

Tried to read the chinglish manual, ineffectual translations, fuzzy/faded b/w pics and no figures or diagrams.

So, NO it's not "safe" to assume. ;)

I have sold alot of these tractors and the clutchs are not that stiff, somethings going on here. With 16 hours what kind of warranty did you get ? did you assemble it ? These tractors are very simple to work on.The others are right where do you think the Compact John Deeres come from ? Take a look at the engine and see what the name says. You paid less than half of what the big three tractors cost,so you are not going to get the same quality tractor but the Jinma will out work the others for 1/2 the cost.

If you are capable you need to find the source of the problem,if not go thru your selling dealer or find a service shop to check it.It's prob. something minor.

Except mine. I had an otherwise pristine 430 that kept wanting to bend it's own deck linkage. And the fuel gauge on my new x500 quit working at 11 hours. Has a paint defect in the cowl too. But I do have to admit, the JD warranty is far superior to any of the 4 Chinese tractors I've owned.
