ok I been busy but I finally got back to my sabre, fabricated a mount so I can cut horizontal, vertical and if the tip hits dirt it can float. still got a lot to do like putting some kind of skid on the end of the bar, some quick connects, and like I said in an earlier post forward remotes or third function valves. still got to put some paint on it but I am further along than I was.

I used my samurai a week ago -- until I hit a tree trunk. I was going very slowly as some of the brush obstructed my line-of-sight with the saw tip. I heard a loud "crack" when I hit it an my first thought was I had damaged my saw. Luckily, the bolt on the mounting bracket sheared and the sickle bar was A-Okay.

There should be a friction slip joint that allows the sickle bar to pivot out of the way when you hit something solid. Have you defeated that?

I probably did defeat it by mounting the cutter perpendicular to the slip direction on the bracket. The unit can be mounted to face just about any direction and/or angle and it only slips one way. I'm lucky only the bolt sheared and will be more careful from now on.

that maybe my next mod I do to the mount. the mount that came with mine was just a 2 x 2 tube mounted regid with no adjustments.

alright what grandpa says grandpa does, oh wait a minute thats grandma anyway just got home with it and now I got me some figuring to do. Got the one that was on Ebay, can you believe it did not sell on Ebay? the owner did not have the original mounts said he did not like them so he made some, looks like they will work but I know I can't leave well enough alone. but my biggest concern is the hydraulics. I need to add forward hydraulics to my B26 and would like more than just a single function. (got ideas for later). ok let the suggestions begin.

Most likely the orig owner damaged the jaw of the mounting clamp incorporated into the friction swivel portion. This can readily happen due to side thrust on the sickle bar ... the tapered reactive jaw will skew sideways and is difficult to fix. This is a flaw in the design that apparently they havnt fixed. Once a tapered plate is welded into this jaw it is quite robust. The problem on yours is that the clamp jaw is evidently cut off entirely.

,,, The orig configuration offers more mounting flexibility but, unfortunately, must be reinforced.

I rebuilt the mount from when I got it so now as you can see I have an adjustment up and down but I will have to do some more thinking on a friction plate and I am still going to add a wheel on the end instead of a skid plate. I have it simple to hook up only takes a few minutes and as I work the brush down I may be just cutting grass that I can't reach with the riding mower.

Took a short VIDEO CLIP of my Samurai Sickle Bar Cutter this weekend.
Had to check the mounting bracket several times to be certain it was tight.
The unit worked itself loose of my bucket early on (without damage!!)
