Sad, sad day for my supertrak

I dont think warranty is going to help you out here. If the line was defective your insurance company may try to go against the manufacturer, but it would be a tough one. These things happen.

I wasnt referring to a extinguisher in my post, but a built in dry chemical system, like AFEX Fire Suppression Systems for the Logging Industry or ANSUL. Ive seen them installed and heard good things, but ill defer to your knowledge as a FF.

A main hydraulic line burst on the 12th, resulting in a large, highpressure fire.....

Total loss in just a few minutes.

Sorry bout your machine, I had to watch my friends machine go up in smoke a couple months ago. He just bought it a month before it burnt, here some pic. We were working on a new steel mill being built in Mobile, Alabama cutting buffer lines, when it caught on fire.

If it was my machine I would be down at the dealer asking why it wasn't covered under warranty.

Think about this: if all the engine mounts break and the engine drops on the ground, does the warranty cover only new mounts, or does it cover fixing the engine and putting it back in the machine?

If a valve breaks and destroys a piston does the warranty cover just the valve, or both the valve and the engine damage?

It might be worth talking to a lawyer and seeing if the manufacturer might be liable not only for the machine, but also for consequential damages, such as loss of income the machine would produce.

Hoses are not covered under the warranty. I have never heard of any warranty for any machine that covered general wear items like hoses, belts etc.

Maybe the hose could not handle the extreme heat and pressure because the hyd. system has a design problem put on it during mulching. Getting supertrak to admit it going to be a problem because they would have to recall all the machines. Lets hope the insurance will pay you off so this doesn't get too messy for ya.

I'm gettin' the real feeling here that engine compartment fires are a not an "uncommon" occurance in SS's and especially with the high hyd mulcher machines...

Where's the shielding and foil-faced asbestos pads (still a no-no?) near lines and extreme heat areas to reduce the number of machines that go down like this??

Well, I would still talk to a lawyer.

Something on that machine was defective. Right now you think it was a hose, but I bet it could have been a fitting or something else.

Even if it was definitely a hose, the hose manufacturer might be liable for the damage.

I would check with a local fire suppression system company.
One by me puts suppression systems in land fill equipment (compactors and loaders and dozer's).
I'm sure they could put one in a bobcat and you might even get a discount from the insurance company.

Landwise tuff brake man, sorry about the loss of your machine. The important thing is you didn't get hurt !!! Can you provide some idea of were the " main line" ruptured in relation to the point ignition. Did the hose have warp or guard ? Is there a possiblity that debris could have cought fire and caused the line to fail first? Nobody is going to cover that. If the manufacture did not take precautions to reduce oil spray with a hose wrap then shame on them.
